If the welterweight title is at stake it should be a welterweight fight (up to 147)

If there are terms being imposed they should be by the champ who has the real title and not the fighter who arguably in the eyes of some but not all holds a mythical title. Thats how I see it anyway.

Who cares it#s now OFFICIALLY supposed to be for the WBO title so Manny's Diva like commands have worked.... I still hope Manny knocks out Cotto though.

How about if Cotto loses he fights Hatton in a double cross roads fight assuming they both want to continue afterwards that is....

    Gpater

Manny would be welterweight champ despite refusing to fight at 147

That is bull**** I'm afraid to say

If both fighter weigh under 147lbs and one of the fighters has the Welterweight belt. The belt has to be on the line.

Greg give it a rest your blatantly wrong. If the belt is on the line then then can both weigh what they want upto and including 147 FFS

    No.

    That is disingenuous.

UP TO 147 is very different to 'below 147'.

They aren't just co-incidentally weighing in at 145, it is a stipulation, therefore it is NOT a welterweight fight.

According to your logic a fighter could win the belt at 145 and defend it at 145 ad infinitum. He could rack up the record number of defences ever. Yet he might never have allowed an opponent to fight at the welter limit.

    That's nonsense.

What about if a champion goes down a division, fights another champion a weight class below. Both belts could be on the line given your logic. Yet the smaller guy might never have fought at the higher weight.

Unfortunately you are flat out wrong on this one matey

Why is there such a struggle to comprehend the simple fact you can weigh in UNDER and UP TO 147 in a welterweight title fight? For ****s sake...

All these catchweights are begining to try my patience. They should be the exception, not the rule.

I've been wondering the same thing. Tyring to explain this simple fact to people has probably been the most difficult and least succesful thing I've ever done in my entire life.

im not blatantly wrong, if anything everyone else is wrong as this sorta thing as happened all the time throughout history. I cant think of an exact example but im sure Jackie Kid Berg (LWW champ) had a non title bout at LW and lost an dtherefore lost his crown.

    see above

    1. Thats called histpry for a reason mate. Medical boards are more stringent nowadays as discussed yesterday. Pac would have to weigh in at least 140 in this era.

    2. they may have done it in the past but they wouldn't have forced the other fighter to weigh in at the same and then have the belt on the line.

It's simple, why is this so hard to explain to you and you only ! :huh

    1. It is history but its relevant history. Pac should have to weigh above 140lbs for medical reasons i agree. But its my believe if a fighter as the welterweight title and he and his opponent weigh underneath the Welterweight limit no matter what the circumstances (unless a non title bout or exhibition) that Belt should be on the line, there is no reason why it should not be.

    2. In that example they arranged a non title bout at 135lbs the LW limit and both fighters weigh in on it, the sanctioning body then declared as both fighters were inder 140lbs the LWW belt shall be on the line as both fighters were under 140lbs.

Its hard to explain to me as i have a different opinion to you
