Yet Mayweather gets bashed on for making 325k fighting Baldomir(someone as popular as Diaz) on a **** poor undercard and an entire card competing with SHOWTIME's free Briggs/Lyakovich heavyweight card which also featured David Diaz in an entertaining fight. Such threads expose the nuthuggers and haters perfectly well for those that want a laugh. P.S. Not pointing fingers at you nor bashing on Pacquiao(who I'm a fan of) just had to get it off my chest.
325k..wow thats great i didn't know mayweather did that much. But perhaps the bashing was because of mayweather's performance
It was also because of the numbers. About his performance, that's Mayweather's style, his style doesn't include charging in with his head and taking shots to entertain a few fat ****s, his style is purely boxing, hit and don't get hit which is what boxing is all about, the ones that bashed on his style of fighting are the newbies that don't know enough of him and only started hearing about him because of the Margarito fiasco, whic is an even bigger pathetic case.
i agree..after that fight there was shitloads of threads regarding his performance and how most people in attendance walk away:yep
Can't force people to like that kind of style. However, the true boxing fans recognize it and appreciate it.
well for one, i was amazed at how mayweather avoided baldomir's punches, even considering that baldomir was snail-slow. mayweather's reflexes alone put a very fine clinic in the ring. though i agree with the criticisms, he could have made an even more teriffic performance by combining his defense with an equally awesome offense.
Alot more money went into Baldomir-PBF promotion and it was a higher weight class for the undisputed belt. The fact that Diaz-Pac didnt even have a countdown shows. 325k is decent as is 250k.
Its just that simple.....boxing fans are right to criticize a fighter the top notch caliber of Mayweather when he choses a safety first approach against a fighter that if overmatched by several leagues..... Jesus, celebrities were walking out mid-way through the fight! Lets get real, fighters of Mayweathers caliber should know that he has an obligation to entertain. Mayweather could have and should have stepped it up a couple of notches and given the fight fans a show
Not if he was injured like he said he was. He has no obligation to put entertainment above his well being.
If he was injured, the fightfans at home and those who walked out on the fight there live, had no way of knowing......thus a brash talking egocentric fighter like Mayweather sets himself up to be criticized in that manner. I happen to think he's a terrific fighter, certainly one of the best if not the best of his era. I for one enjoy watching him fight, but if he wants to talk crap the way he does, he best be prepared to back it up without excuses!
Didnt MAB vs Fana do 90,000? Considering the weight class and lack of promotion for this fight, this really isnt a bad ballpark number at all.
They knew it after the fact, and the criticism continued. He said immediately after the fight that he hurt his right hand in the mid rounds. And being the best has nothing to do with entertainment. It's not part of the criteria. I don't think he's the best of this era BTW. But that isn't the point. I understand his personality opens him up to certain criticism. But not all criticism.
When you say you're gonna KO this guy blah blah and basically trick the public into watching the fight, come fight night you choose to run from round 1, that would annoy alot of people. He has no obligation to entertain his fans (despite being in the entertainment business), just as Michael Jackson has no obligation to entertain his fans. However if you want the critics to rate youre performance well, they will rate it based on your entertainment value and entertainment put butts in seats. I never found PBF to be that boring a fighter at all, outside the Baldomir fight I quite enjoyed his fights. Even the DLH one but I suppose its not for the mainstream.
Mayweather didn't run from round 1. He didn't start moving around the ring until around round 6 or 7. And boxing critics should rate the performance itself along with the things you mentioned. They should also not allow that performance to become a permanent label and act as though his other performances suddenly don't count.
