pardon me for saying but, if pac has the pound for pound 'title' and hatton beats him, why cant hatton claim it? After all he has 'beaten the man'

 

that's not how it works, bud. but i'm sure if hatton beats pac he'll move up to 5 or 4.

It doesnt work that way.

It's sort of like having an imaginary "pound 4 pound" points awarded for every big win a fighter achieves. The fighters at number 2, number 3, number 4, etc, etc. on the list, they've amassed a lot of "points" already and they deserve to be there.

If Hatton wins, he'll jump some places and he'll be surely inside the top 10, but he wont automatically be placed as number 1. He'll need to win more fights and earn more "points" to claim the top spot.
