part of every boxers job is to attract new fans to the sport, untold but significant for the sports survival. if you can do this as a boxer, you are doing a great service to the sport. as a fan who belittles those who are new to the sport, something is dead wrong with you. this sport and any other sports needs followers in order to survive. and please, let others speak about how vast your knowledge of the sport is, proclaiming it yourself rubs people the wrong way. as the saying goes, empty cans do rattles most.
Some boxing fans are like those snooty, brash, attention ***** nouveau rich people, who when they suddenly have a lot of new money, quick, they think everyone else not as rich as them are beneath them and are garbage. But the the secure, super rich billionaires, who are the real rich guys, are some of the most modest, respectful and low key rich guys you can ever meet.
Started watching boxing with my dad around the time Navarette and Bazooka Limon fought. I admit I didn't get to watch many of the classic fights back then as most of them weren't available in Manila. I recall seeing Mugabi and Hagler and thought they were such bad asses. I rooted for Cooney against Holmes, Lalonde against Leonard, Leonard against Camacho. Yeah, I liked the underdogs, and I had a mean streak of picking the losers. LOL After seeing Tyson knock down Berbick 3x with one punch, I didn't wear socks to school for days.
yeah AA should've accepted the outcome and moved on. but incidents like that happen in boxing or in any other sport for that matter. i'm really excited on his upcoming froch fight. both are bangers and i think somebody will go down. i just hope AA finishes froch like the way he did against "pantera" miranda..
When I was a kid we used to watch all the big heavyweight fights in the 1970's. They were on free TV back then. Then I watched all the boxing in the 1976 Olympics, especially the great Cuban fighters and Ray Leonard. I still remember how happy I was when Ray Leonard finally went pro. I followed his whole career. People may not remember what an underdog he was in all his big fights. He's still my favorite fighter. Then I was a big Chavez fan. He had the sweetest style. And now I've been watching all the wars among the great Mexican fighters of the last ten years, and of course, Manny since the Barrera fight. I usually just read this forum, not contribute. But this ***** ts tonight really just pissed me off with his bull****. Peace out, guys.
i hated that leonard-camacho fight. camacho was cocky and tried toying with the faded leonard. tyson was the biggest thing in boxing in the late 80s. man was he scary.:yep
