Here's the link for the content below: http://www.inquirer.net/sports/arti...ave-Margarito-quaking-in-fear-says-Roach.html by: Ronnie Nathanielsz 12:33:31 26/09/2010 (Manila Time) MANILA—Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao suffered a minor muscle injury during training at the Elorde Gym Saturday, but trainer Freddie Roach sees no cause for worry as the boxer’s camp prepares to leave for Baguio City. In fact, Roach said it’s Antonio Margarito who should be scared. “We are going to scare the sh_t out of Margarito,” Roach said. “That’s one thing Manny will do, he will scare people.” Roach said the Pacman’s injury was nothing new to Team Pacquiao, which will motor to Baguio City Sunday for the more serious phase of preparations for the fight against the Mexican Margarito on Nov. 13. “We will get that out of the way as soon as possible,” Roach said of the injury. “It’s not an injury we haven’t had before so we know how to deal with it.” Pacquiao had a little swelling in his leg muscle during training Saturday. Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza will check out the minor scrape before the team heads for the country’s summer capital. Even Pacquiao didn’t seem bothered by the injury as he went 10 rounds with the mitts aside from doing his usual routine. “His power is very, very good, his speed is coming along and his timing is getting better,” Roach said. “[His] accuracy is not a hundred percent yet but it’s getting better.” Roach has trained with Pacquiao in Manila for a week already, and the celebrated boxing guru couldn’t ask anything more from his equally celebrated ward. “I’m thrilled. The thing is we had a great training camp and I expect training camp to be like this all the way through.” The Elorde gym was packed with Pacquiao fans, including former PBA Best Import bobby Parks and son Ray, who will see action for National University next season. Parks said he “couldn’t leave until we see Manny throw some punches.” Roach disclosed he would clamp down on onlookers when training camp gets underway in Baguio. “We are going to have it closed down for the sparring and keep our game plan to ourselves a little bit more,” said Roach, who added that he may open the gym to fans “a couple of times, probably on Saturdays.” Roach said that when the HBO 24/7 crew comes up to shoot Pacquiao’s sparring sessions, “we are going to have to hush up a little bit because we have a couple of surprises for Margarito.” Roach said Pacquiao still has a lot in him in terms of boxing. “I would like to see him get a couple more fights, then get (Floyd) Mayweather Jr and get out of there,” he added. “If his hunger stays there like it is now, he can do this for four more years if he wanted to. His work ethic is better now than it was the first day we met. He amazed me the first day and he amazes me everyday. He has achieved so much but he still has that drive. It’s for his people.” ------------- I guess we will see more of Pacman in the future. What do you guys think?
Somehow, I doubt it. Congressional duties shouldn't be giving you enough time to be a professional prize fighter unless the Congress in the PI isn't doing ****. I guess that could be believeable.
I think that defeats the purpose of becoming a government servant. If that's the case, Manny should go back to boxing full time. My wife, her dad, the other Filipinos I've met in Bahrain and Dubai all feel he would be better off just being a fighter. He inspires the country when he fights, throwing in his idea for a few bills here or there and then going back to boxing won't help him reach his goals of helping the people in Saringani. Let him go back to being a fighter, then be a real congressman afterwards.
being an icon in a country that isn't exactly one of the 'richest' in the world will allow him some liberties with that. pacman inspires countrymen who are struggling, but he also doesn't strike me at all as someone who would take liberties on that. i'm sure he could palm off some work when training kicked in though.
I somehow agree to what you have said except for the first sentence. We know it is NOT impossible to do both job. He hasn't failed yet and he is actually doing ok (except for his sister but I know he should do something about it). He'll be the first to know if he feels he can't manage both careers he selected to be. We can't tell him what he needs to be. Then he'll decide what he likes better. Whatever he picks will be what he thinks is better for his future.
It's very well known that he has an insane work ethic in the gym, but depending on his next performance, we'll know for sure if his job as a congressman can affect it. This will be his first actual fight as a sworn in congressman, he was only elected about 5 months ago. You can't gauge his ability as a public servant after only 5 months, it's unrealistic.hell of a gimmick now though as a fighting congressman.lol.
In the rural areas of the Philippines, being an effective congressman in the eyes of your constituents means representing them and being able to release as much government funds and aid and resources as you can to your district. You do this, and you are doing your job. Drafting bills into national law and staying all day in congress is not as important. It's all local politics. And the district he's representing is one of the poorest in the country.
yeah I know lol. Where else can you find a Political icon that can kick someone's ass in front of a TV with the whole world watching. :thumbsup
Duly noted. I had read about how bad off they are in that province. His goals seemed kinda small to me as an American born and raised Flip mongrel but I can see how having such a huge country with such low funding can make something like promising better roads and 2 hospitals a tall order in itself. He already had a lot of relations with other politlcal high rollers so maybe that makes things easier for him.
Everything I just read escaped my mind after reading this “I would like to see him get a couple more fights, then get (Floyd) Mayweather Jr and get out of there,” he added.
Roach meant he sees Pac fighting 2 more before Floyd gets out of his cell. Hopefully Floyd will be ready by then..(or he might say needs a tune-up fight first before going on another vacation :rofl)
"He amazed me the first day and he amazes me everyday. He has achieved so much but he still has that drive. Its for his people. Can't say this with the other fighters but this is true. Pac gets his power, the drive, and motivation from his people.
