Pacquiao hints at gameplan. Is his logic right?

I completely agree. I was always a big fan of the 3 Mexican greats: Morales, Barrera, and Marquez and was surprised when Pacquiao busted out onto the scene.

Morales did not try impose his size on Pacquiao until the last round and almost got KO'd in the process. The jab was the key to victory against the more green/technically limited Pacquiao. Since then Pacquiao has developed a lot more tools and Marquez had to develop more sophisticated strategies to overcome Pac.

The strategy to win with punches in bunches I think is a good one and could get Pac the decision. I think this is the primary reason Mayweather only won by SD vs UD against DelaHoya because May's output was so low in the early half of the fight. However many fighters have come at May with high output to only get countered and busted up by the end of the fight.

I think the main thing Pac has to focus on is creativity, feints and odd angles. Mayweather is used to fighting text book fighters with textbook to sub-par techniques. Each fighter becomes predictable after Mayweather has their timing and rhythm down. Pac has to make sure he's coming at Mayweather at fast and slow tempos, different feints, and different set-ups each round. Never let Mayweather adjust or get comfortable. Pac already has this ability, so keep mixing it up.

as far as smothering goes, Manny has fought bigger fighters than Floyd several times, has he ever been smothered? Manny is extremely strong for his size. I think Floyd is going to be shocked at how strong Manny is and how hard he punches. This notion that Floyd will smother him and beat him on the inside is a bit far fetched

who is not useless in the clinch? no-one can fight when an opponent is grabbing and holding. This is not MMA so what can Manny do when Floyd starts hugging him? throw him to the ground?

I think Manny will be stronger and faster than Floyd thinks and Floyd is going to become a clinching machine. I hope i'm wrong

I think you have hit on something here. I think clever aggression, timing and rhythm are the things that Manny brings to the table that could trouble Mayweather. I really rate Floyd, but I can see where you are coming from regarding a possible style advantage for Pacqiuao.

 

Roach has said in a few interviews that they are going to "throw a lot of punches" thinking this will keep Mayweather from banking rounds and getting a big lead on the scorecards. What that doesn't account for is leaving Pacquaio's Glass Jaw open to counters.

Regardless of what Roach and Pacquiao plan on doing I don't they win the fight.

 

I think if Pacquiao can replicate the ODLH performance, the quick in and out raids he could out point Mayweather, even if he is hitting arms and gloves it could look like he is just out working Mayweather.

The danger with that is Mayweather is smart, it might take a round or two but you would expect him to time Pacquiao coming in.

This is why even now it is such an intriguing fight, you can see it going so many different ways because both a great fighters and can change it up in the blink of an eye.
