You are completely over-estimating Rios. Rios is exactly the kind of fighter Pac should have. And even if you arent overestimating Rios (which you are. Pac vs Rios will be one-sided even with this version of Pac, if he comes in shape and his chin isnt shot) Id rather see Pac exit in a fight against Rios, win or lose..... then him take a soft touch meaningless fight, where he will once again have a brutal training camp, in which his stupid sparring takes as much from his as many of his fights do, then another soft touch, where he will then have another brutal camp, and then fight... who exactly? Bunch of wasted time when he doesnt have much time left. Fight Rios and exit the sport. If he cant beat Rios, hes not going to beat anyone worth beating at this point. Like I said, you are over estimating Rios. He is in the exact mold of fighter Pac should face right now, as its exactly the type of fighter Pac eats alive. And if Pac, even this version, cant beat Rios.... then he wont be beating anyone worth fighting at this point, and would be better to leave his brain without the bashing of 3 or 4 more training camps. Either fight a nobody and retire with an easy W, or leave by fighting Rios in a huge fight that even a faded Pac should win, in exactly the kind of fight Pac likes, and wants from opponents. Bottom line is, Pacs training camps take as much from him as most of his fights (not counting this last one), and to have him age another year, with two more needless training camps of brutal gym wars as usual, until he fights a top tier opponent, is just needless. Fight Rios and then get out. I wouldnt want him back in April, thats for sure. But if thats what hes going to do then so be it. But going through the type of camps Pac does to take on a nobody is just senseless. Guys like him, Toney, and many old school fighters, take most of their damage in the gym wars they go through..... My point is I want to limit how many of them he has. Fight Rios, or if not Rios then some no chancer, in June, and retire would be my plan for Pac. He wants to fight in April, so be it. Rios isnt the fight Id desire for Pac, but he wants big names and thats the only big name suitable for him to fight, imo.
No one wants to see Manny hurt. he's a good guy with a heart of gold. But you can tell he loves boxing and him going out on his shield is something he was willing to risk...as was Juan. both men were knocked down TWICE....The one shot that PAC ate at the end of round 6 was something serious. No one will know how that affected him until he gets back into the ring. If Manny were to say..."you know what...I had a great career and have accomplished everything I wanted and more...it's time to hang'em up" ...I think everyone would respect that. But PAC isn't singing that song just yet.....he's reacted in a way that says he's still got something left to bring to the ring....He's looking to get back to work which may or may not be a bad thing. If he says he's going to continue...let's support him. 33 is not that old and before the KO...PAC looked like a ****ing beast. Let's not write him off just yet. Let's see how he's able to bounce back....or if he can't.
:good Paulie would be a good fight to ensure PAC gets in some round and works on shaking off some rust without having to worry too much about getting hurt. Rios would offer some great action but I think PAC would need more rounds to help shake some of the cobwebs he probably will have from the knock out and layoff. I'd like to see JMM vs PAC 5 in late 2013 if Juan is willing. if he decides to retire I'd be sad. He's given fans a lot of great fights and this last one was his absolute best.
I agree with what mrjotato is saying. I'd try and take more time off and rest/work on technique in the gym, and then get back into a balls-out strength and conditioning program before a return match late in 2013. I don't think it's wise to come back so soon. If I were Manny, I'd try and take 6 months off. Minimum. If he were to return in April, the press tour/build up probably starts in January, and then he's back in the gym by early February. In other words... that means he gets a grand total of one month of rest and recovery, which as a fan of his I find totally inadvisable and foolhardy. There were a lot of bizarre things about what happened on Saturday, but I think one of the craziest is that for the first two rounds, Manny looked much better from a technical standpoint than I've ever seen him against Marquez (or anyone else really, for that matter.) He had some good puzzling arm/upper body/head movement that was really throwing JMM off and leaving him guessing, tentative, and missing. He was actually successfully doing what he had tried to do in the third fight, which was outbox JMM. I strongly think that was what Roach actually wanted him to do in this fight. However, that plan went down the drain when Manny got more confident in round 3 and disrespected how dangerous JMM could be and started to try and walk him down. When he got put on his ass, angry, aggressive brawler Pac returned, which was exactly what Marquez needed to happen, because this bulkier, more powerful Marquez has less stamina and speed than he used to, and it's clear he can't outbox Manny the way he once did, which is probably why he's tried to alter his approach and physique into a devastating monster puncher. He absorbed some devastating punishment from Angry Brawler Pac, but it allowed him to get the timing down and find an opening to hit with his increased power, something that didn't exist when it was Boxer Pac in the first 2 rounds. I think the improvements Manny showed in some respect confirm what jotato has said, and that it's not too late to continue to try and make subtle improvements and technical refinements to improve himself. He needs to give himself time and rest to do that though. If I were close to Pac, I'd tell him to wait until November, do everything in his power to try and not have Bradley fight JMM in the meantime, return then, avenge that "loss", and then see if they could throw enough money at JMM to entice him to return for one last bout in May 2014. Manny would have to try and box though, and look for a late cut/exhaustion stoppage or a clear decision, because that's the one way to beat this bulkier, more powerful Marquez. And that's what happened in the first two rounds before he couldn't resist trying to walk him down. If he spends his time trying to continue to improve, rest, and sticks to a more disciplined game plan next time, I think he can launch a successful comeback.
Mrjotato makes sense and I think it's not a bad idea. I just feel PAC is going to come back in April no matter what. it's just the kind of fighter he is. I'm worried about him a little bit myself, given how scary the aftermath was. Hopefully PAC isn't coming to this decisions hastily.
Pac should send a big **** YOU to Arum.. I don't believe he should fight in April, and honestly think the only reason he's saying that is Arum already wanted to setup Pac vs Rios in April... This is not new news, not sure why nobody in this thread has mentioned it.. I hope Pac isn't being forced/talked into fighting in April because that was Arum's plan before the loss... He should rest up.. Like it's been said, if he fights in April how long of a rest does he have before getting back into training? Doesn't seem good for someone many thought died in the ring... Take some time off Pac..
He should take 5 months off or so, but I think fighters like Pac feel the need to get right back in there and try to wash away this moment by getting back in there and beating someone up again.... Its the harsh reality of a champions mindset.
He got over confident. If only Pac did not got over confident, he is already in the process of dominating JMM(broken nose worse than previous fights). Maybe Pac seeing JMM with a broken nose, give Pac a dangerous comfort, and let his guard down a bit, unfortunately that few seconds of letting your guard down is fatal.
Pac looked great in that fight. He should fight on. He was better than anytime Ive seen him in the last 3 years. His technique early on was tight. He just got caught, it happens and He is that kind of a fighter. He ****n rearranged JMMs face as well. He did well bar the KO which He ran into.
I think in their last fight Pac could have comfortably out box JMM in a wide UD(dominate JMM). But Pac always like to please his fans, so he goes for a TKO or KO vs JMM..He might also underestimated JMM's power(can't blame him he took JMM's best shot before).. And as I told Pac is doing great, he just got over confident.
Manny should take Floyd's advice in taking some easy fights before going in there with Marquez who at this point read him like a book. Two consecutive KOs is not a good look.
