Let's imagine Manny fights Floyd and win in, let's say, convincing fashion.
Where would you rank him in the ATG class ?

ps: just asking cause I don't even think he would be near top 25

No, because you'd still have guys like Gus Ruhlin, Maher and Chocolate Farmhand ahead of him.

If he beats Mayweather then he's top 5, in my opinion. Only Robinson, Ali and Armstrong would be locked above him

Mayweather needs to fight someone. He is becoming an ODLH type figure towards the end of his career. I think Mayweather is going to find out the hard way he cant take a year off between fights and still perform at the top level. I think at this point Mayweather would have a very difficult time with an active fighter like Pac.

A Pac win is starting to become less meaningful for his legacy in my opinion.

The Mosley fight is going to very interesting though. Mosley has at least been active and I think he will make a good fight for Pac.

I am starting to feel alone then... probably should rewatch fights of the likes of Robinson, Pep, Duran, Leonard (both of them), Armstrong etc and so forth. Maybe they weren't that great to start with if Manny is quoted along with those.

Mayweather did get away with taking two years off before Marquez, but admitted the layoff hampered his performance. Now, PBF is not only inactive with no fights scheduled, he's already 34 years old. I thought boxing needed this one too desperately for it not to come off, but so much time has elapsed that this royal coach may already be a pumpkin. If he does decide to finally take on Pac, he'll need a tune-up if he's serious about beating Manny.
Shane turned 39 in September, and is coming in off a loss and draw. But Manny can still get some mileage out of this thing if he manages to pull off a stoppage win. (Ditto for squaring off with Mayweather. Beating him might not be such a huge deal, but producing a knockout could be. Of course that works both ways. At this stage, a conservative win might not be enough, if they have an eye to history.)

I was more impressed with Pacquiao when he was still at 126 - 135.
I think this weight-class jumping campaign has been overrated. It's gimmick stuff, because some of these titles are a joke, and they are fighting for weight division titles at adjusted weight limits - it's more akin to SRL v Lalonde than Henry Armstrong's campaign.

He was awesome against Barrera and Morales etc.
I thought his last "historic title achievement" against Magorito was a joke really.
Mosley looked really poor in his last fight, IMO, so I'm not expecting much there.

It's hard to gauge Pacquiao at the moment, especially amid the hysteria.
I agree that Mayweather is fast becoming a non-factor.

In terms of career resume, opposition beaten, and longevity etc. obviously Pacquiao is nowhere near as "accomplished" as Robinson, Greb, Langford, Armstrong, Charles etc.
But on his peak ability and overall value as a fighter, it's more subjective. He's obviously great.

He´s lurking into the Top20 already with an impressive win over Mayweather I think he is among the people that certainly deserve to be ranked there.

as it stands he's pushing for the top 25. i want to see him fight mayweather at 147 and then martinez at 160. if he beats those two, i think he's top 15, with a case for top 10.

if he beat hopkins at 175, he'd have a case for being the greatest.

If they had an eye on history they wouldn't have chosen this their third Mayweather left-over. This fight can only hurt him.

If Manny stops Shane in one, I'll raise an eyebrow. That's about it.

He's solidly in the top 25 now as far as I see it. If he beats PBF, he's top 20. If he does that and beats Martinez somewhere close to MW he's possibly a top 15.

I defer to you on this. As you're long since well aware, my view is really more of a disinterested party these days. Manny trying to stop Shane in one might not be a bad idea though. He needs a significant upgrade from what Mayweather did with Mosley to try luring PBF out of the shadows.
