Pacquiao doesnt have the trademark explosiveness. Marquez tonight was clearly alot slower and not the fighter he used to be athletically at the lower weights. Yet, Pacquiao could not capitalize on this with neither of his supposed advantage with speed and power. Familiar? As in the Shane Mosley fight, Pacquiao, after the knockdown, could not catch a much slower, faded Mosley who was able to evade Pacquiao by turning him for most of the fight. Tonight, Pacquiao clearly had opportunities against this older, slower version of Marquez but could not capitalize with his trademark explosiveness. There is now NO way that the pacman can beat floyd now. Floyd has both better defense than Mosley and equal if not better counterpunching ability than JMM. Its a real shame that they didn't fight after pacquiao beat cotto which I think was his absolute peak. Thanks for your bravery but please retire manny. We don't wanna see you get hurt nor wanna see you fight in your current state. I didn't attempt to score the fight but after watching it, even as a huge fan my instinct was that manny lost. I hope marquez can take solace in the fact that boxing has had a history of corruption and know that the scorecards had a very real possibility of not reflecting an unbiased view.
No. Pac is just one dimensional Brawler with no ability to adapt what so ever. He only relies on his speed, power and great reflexes. Guy really has no good Boxing skills.
Yeah I agree. He's similar to RJJ in that regard. Freddy created a style for him to maximize his offense and minimize his need for defense in lieu of his great athletic ability and lack of technical ability. But now he doesn't have the physical assets to support it. He's well past his prime at this point from all those wars.
I don't think Pac is done, but fighters know that inviting him in and countering for 12 rounds is the way to beat him, and it's tough to look good under those circumstances, especially against someone with the timing that JMM has. Marquez fought a brilliant fight (and I thought he won convincingly for what it's worth), but if Pac had decided to employ the same tactics, we wouldn't have had a fight and it's to Pac's credit that he never stops coming forward. Ever since the 4th (ish) round of the Cotto fight, every one of Pac's opponents have done the boxing equivalent of sticking 11 men behind the ball. One thing is for certain though, this is the first time that I've thought that Pac has ZERO chance against Floyd, which is why that fight will probably happen soon.
Naw....just needs Arum and Roach to go back to matching him more carefully. What fighters holds titles but are limited in skill, movement, defense, speed and past their primes? I am quite sure they'll be getting a call from Arum after tonight saying: "CLEAR YA' SCHEDULE". We are lucky that Cassamayor lost.
