    Ridiculous.

Neither of the two have as impressive records. Realistically, you could include a win over Chavez for Whitaker. Chavez is rather overrated, he is certainly a great fighter, but Pacquiao has comfortably passed him. Whitaker was a freak, and one of the best two or three lightweights in history, but he didn't have as many big wins, nor did he conquer higher weights like Pacquiao has.

I don't mind seeing Whitaker being ranked alongside Pacquiao, or vice-versa, but I certainly can't see how Pernell can still be ranked ahead, other than nostalgia.

Would that make Juan Manuel Marquez the greatest fighter since Sugar Ray Robinson?

If anybody that is a boxing fan would know easily that a prime Whitaker would have beat Pacquiao. Hell a past his prime over the hill Whitaker barely lost to a prime De la hoya.

He had the chance to be the greatest since Leonard & Duran but he pulled out & signed to fight the wonderful Clottey instead so he gets ranked no higher by my until he steps up & fights either Mayweather or Mosely.

Chavez & Whitaker are the greatest fighters since Leonard & Duran.

    End of discussion.

Does losing a close decision do that for a fighter?

Bill Butcher, it might be the end of discussion for you. But for those with an ounce of objectivity, looking at the reality of the situation and not being clouded by some nostalgic bias, it is perfectly fine to rank Pacquiao ahead of those two guys with overrated records. Whitaker is top 20, Chavez... not so much. Pacquiao is at least the equal of Whitaker now.

Its amateurish to include ppv buys when discussing greatness...

Which one of those 7 divisions has Manny got a prayer of being ranked amongst the best ever ?....

    Whitaker was p4p no1 from 1993-97...

Ability & the timing of when you beat certain fighters is a big part of my criteria, so yes, case closed (again) :thumbsup

pacquiao has already surpassed chavez when he became 147 pound champ last november. when you are a former flyweight champ who dominated up to welterweight earning belts and lineal recognition along every step of the way like no one in history has ever done, and with an impressive resume built on HOF opponents, i don't know how people could still put you down lol

6 titles, 4 years pound for pound, PPV irrelevant.

    Happy now?

Prime Barrera and Marquez, close to prime Cotto, Ledwaba, Hatton, Clottey, slightly declined Morales [II] after losing to him a year before, and there is a shot Morales [III] and De La Hoya.

Whitaker lost to Ramirez, before beating him a couple of years later in Ramirez's second last fight. He beat a prime Chavez, he deserves credit for that, a close to prime Nelson and Vasquez and not much else.

    Explain it to me...

    Case closed, again.
