    Wrong.

I get your point that it matters to the fans what fighters do and not how much they make. Of course we don't care about how much they make, we don't get to have a cent of it. Of course fighters should care about being the best, and many do.

I take exception with your claim of "Cotto would fight for no money". I have more respect for Cotto's sanity and intelligence than that.

I take exception to your claim of "a fighter who fights for money first is a sideshow act".

The Ring asked Larry Holmes in a recent interview what he missed most about boxing. He didn't say "I miss being the best". He didn't say "I miss the glory of winning". He said "money, M-O-N-E-Y". He even took the time to spell out the ****ing word to emphasize it.

Ray Robinson, the consensus #1 fighter to lace them up, said "I never enjoyed boxing. It's all a business to me". His sister said, "he did it for the money". Neither of them talked about their legacies.

How about Willie Pep's philosophy on boxing? "What I want is to do the best I can, make all the money I can, without getting hurt. To me, it's the art of self-defense." http://philboxing.com/news/story-7938.html

What, were these guys "sideshow acts"???

No wrong, that proves that you missed the point altogether. My original argument was and is the fighters that fight for the sheer love of the game attain much greater heights. Which include fame and MONEY.

Read the original post, it clearly says "money or no money." That is obviously there to illustrate my point that Cotto doesn't duck anyone. That point was further proved when he took that fight with Tony. He was not looking for an easy paycheck. That is the point of this thread ...

cmon now you can't be serious manny should and will demand a bigger purse if they ever fight again
did you forget that marquez lost the rematch and should've lost the first fight if not for one judges admitted error
pac has always fought stiff competition over the past 5-6 years with a few warmups in between to stay sharp.
if a man is only fighting for money then there is a problem but if you fight for money and the chance to be great then that is a double positive
there is no way in hell i would give any of those guys at lightweight a better chance than oscar against pac
i don't believe manny would fight if he didn't plan on winning
if he can some way pull off this huge upset he will be an even bigger star and go down automatically as an all time great

Not all the great fighters loved boxing. At least according to them.

Ray Robinson is the consensus greatest ever. Both he and his sister said it was all business, and Ray said he never enjoyed boxing.

Michael Spinks said he didn't like boxing. He only went back to the sport post-Montreal because he was getting in trouble for doing shitty work (no pun intended) at his janitorial job.

Chris Eubank constantly expressed a dislike of the sport.

There was a thread in the classic forum about fighters who hated the sport.

My guess is that most of these fighters liked the sport at first, grew to dislike it after awhile, but kept with it because of the money and the fact that boxing is basically all they know and are really good at.

I have no argument with that.

But DLH is not an easy paycheck for Manny, who is the main subject of this thread. Pacquiao is a comparative midget who is going to get his ass kicked.

Some of you guys really seem to know everything...The only thing some of you guys see is two close fight, we need one more. What is the MAIN purpose of Pro Boxing? Whatever you guys say you know that moneys come first. It's the moneys that's why fighter fight for the best $$$ they can get. There's a reason why fighter like Hoya and Pac are getting paid big bucks to fight whoever. They keep fighting good top opponents, giving the fans what they want to see. When you climb that mountain to the top you can pretty much stay there because you has already establish your name. Put yourself into Pac shoes, why would you want to fight Marquez? You can get paid pretty much the same whoever you fight. You know that a fight with Marquez will pretty much be same, something close to that of a draw. Also it will be tuff and damaging so there's no point in taking the fight unless it's for really good $$$$$$$$$. Like it or not, Pac is a business man now like Hoya. He's no more generic but good brand name. If some of these other fighter wants to make big $$$$ fighting whoever like Pac and Hoya, I suggest you start telling them to keep fighting the top dog and destroying them than they'll start making the big $$$$$$$$$$$.

Too much Pacquiao bashing in ESB. When Pac beat Morales and Barrera, people here discredit his victories as fluke because he beat shot and aging fighters. But when Marquez beat a 38 year old Casamayor who has seen better days, suddenly he becomes #1 P4P. Aren't you, guys unfair to Pacquiao? Give him credit for going up two division higher and has the courage to fight a bigger boxer despite all odds.

Which fighter dont wanna fight for money???
Some of the fighters, that most consider as greedy, worked hard to get in the position where they are now. Part of it is power to dictate conditions.
Those crying of being ducked and not having a say on the matter will just have to work some more. That is reality.

This is going to blow up in Pacquiaos face if Marquez fights Campbell and wins.

Marquez will then have 3 belts and the lineal title.

Pacquiao will have his fake ass belt that David Diaz was given without ever actually fighting for.

He wont have **** to negotiate about. Marquez will be the recognized champ, not him.

My guess for Pac is, after surviving Hoya, he goes for Hatton. Then there is no way fukin hell he can't accept the rematch. Rematch will be made so stop the sour graping to both fighters(specially on JMM side) 1 of there delusional fan should like shut up. Cause he's making himself look like Pac f**ked his wife or something.
