jeez. beat me to it. floyd and pac are still miles away compared some of those guys mentioned above in terms of ppv reign.
Obviously most on here have their own messed up opinion of what p4p is. Floyd been top 10 since 98 and really #1 since 2004. pac got #1 only while Floyd waiting out a contract. Soon as me came back be routed #2 jmm which made him p41 again. P4p is how would you fair h2h is in the same div. Pac was defaulted #1 on a temp basis
Whenever it was that he left and came back (what a joke that was) the fact remains that when you retire you lose your ranking. If you come back you then have to earn that place again. Nonetheless it is a matter of record that Mayweather did not become P4P number 1 when he returned, he became number 2. Pacquiao was ranked as P4P number 1 during this time. Fact. (See Ring magazine July 2012) It is a fact that Mayweather did not become P4P number 1 again until after Pacquiao lost to Bradley and Marquez. My question remains who did Mayweather beat to move from the number 2 spot up to the number 1 spot? The answer is no one, it was a gift. So, who did Mayweather beat when he came back to earn the number 2 spot? Marquez was never rated any higher than P4P number 6, Mosley was shot (though possibly still ranked P4P, not sure), Ortiz was a joke and Cotto wasn't ranked in the P4Ps at the time they fought. Since he came back Mayweather hasn't fought anyone with a P4P ranking, other than Marquez (P4P 6). So, how, exactly, did he earn his number 1 P4P spot?
Mosley was #3 P4P and Lineal Titleholder at 147. Marquez was #3 P4P when Floyd fought him. Cotto was #9 P4P, #1 at 154 and WBC Champion. Ortiz was a titleholder @147, and was coming off FOTY, and was the #3 ranked Welterweight behind FLoyd and Pac. that's how.
Well, I'd appreciate it if you could share your sources for the P4P status of all these fighters at the material time. I've trawled through my (albeit incomplete) collection of Ring Magazines and I can't see Cotto or Mosley in the P4P rankings at the time they fought Mayweather. In any case, the fact remains that Pacquiao was number 1, Mayweather number 2. Pacquiao lost, then Mayweather becomes number 1 based on what? Cotto or Guerrero? It was a gift, he didn't earn it.
how is beating the guy 2 weight classes below gets you the no.1 p4p? so if pac beats rigo at a c/w, he becomes no. 1 again? tehftjr never beat pac. he got back to no. 1 by virtue of pac losing to someone else. winning by default. another **** achievement by theftjr. first had to give up ranking. too scared of the ww's at that time. went back and fought a midget, and he became no. 1 again?:rofl
That's a cool stat for Pacquiao I guess my question is why was Pac never removed not even from the top 5 after arguably losing 3 fights in a row Marquez III, Bradley I, & Marquez IV. I can see the first Pac-TB fight anywhere from 7-5Pac to 7-5 TB neither fighter did much and it was far from a domination like people claim. Marquez should have won fight III 9-3/8-4 and KO'd him in fight IV in a fight that Marquez would have been up in if Pac got up (after 6, 3-3, 2kd's by JMM) While you can argue there P4P rankings @ WW Marquez only claim is arguably beating Pacquiao twice koing him once and Bradleys claim is a close/disputed win over Pac and a win over Marquez. Neither fighter was ranked going into any of those fights and Pacquiao was a heavy favorite by KO in each. I've seen a P4P #3/4 Donaire get taken off for losing one fight vs Rigo (a person some claim should be P4P#2 and even #1) he's bounced back and won a title at another weight and still can't get a ranking. Yet Pacquiao can arguably lose 3 fights in a row and still be top 5?
Don't mistake me for a *******. If Pacquiao was gifted his number 1 spot then that's a separate issue. (Who did Pacquiao in fact beat to get his number 1 spot, anyone remember? He did have a great run at one point, for sure.) Anyway, we were talking about Mayweather. Fact is the current P4P number 1 did not earn his spot and his recent victories leading up to this point have been fairly ordinary and fall far short of the hype. I'm also pretty sure that Mayweather did in fact retire after the DeLa Hoya fight, if only briefly. If you are able to provide sources for the P4P status of Marquez, Mosely and Cotto at the time they fought Mayweather then I would appreciate a link or whatever. I know the Ring carries this stuff but my back issues are incomplete. I'm not trying to be awkward or confrontational with you on this point, I just genuinely would like to know where these guys were ranked at the material time.
