When he faced fighters who were the same size as him and as fast as him, he got troubles but when he faced bigger fighters, he beat them all. That's my observation. What do you think?
From a technical standpoint, I do think Manny has a harder time with smaller fighters. His main flaws are lunging with his punches and failing to bring his hands back into his guard. Against bigger fighters, aiming upwards may zap some of his power, but it becomes easier for him to bring his hands back into his high guard after throwing a combination. Marquez caught him numerous times by widening his stance and going up from under to his body and through the guard with uppercuts and overhand rights. Likewise, Bradley was able to duck below a lot of Manny's punches and had him flailing. He can't see as well and thus is less accurate and vulnerable to counters.
Good analysis!:good but there are also other factors involved. Those bigger fighters were normally not as fast as Pacquiao and they were easier to be hit than smaller fighters. I mean bigger guys = bigger targets.
Irrelevant. But it is impressive when you're the only former flyweight around who can pull it off. Thanks. The footspeed is definitely a factor; it makes a smaller target even harder to hit. In reference to what I outlined before about his guard and accuracy, look here; he still hits Tim plenty of times, but is all off balance and unprotected as he desperately looks for him: This content is protected JMM was able to exploit this by coming in low: This content is protected
Possibily the most overrated stat in boxing. Pacquiao was 17, peobbly fighting at the lowest weight his younger body would let him. Most young boxers do that. You know who else was about the same weight at the same age? Floyd Mayweather, who unlike Pacquiao won a ligt championship at light middle weight (154) not once but twice. Same as welterweight (147) not once but twice.
Add drained Cotto, who was coming off a devastating ko loss to that. Same with Margarito. Just more Arum scripted, Pac fights.
His main attribute is speed. Bigger men tend to be slower. Kind of like how Chris Byrd excelled in that department at heavyweight, only.. he was not nearly as powerful as Pacquiao P4P.
He does seem to have trouble when people can get down low, under his punches. As Bogo's gifs show, both Marquez and Bradley were able to do this (with Marquez having more success), and Pac would sometimes look uncomfortable. (Although he was still landing on Bradley.)
from a strategic standpoint the smaller guys he fought were smarter. They didn't try to brawl it out with roid
