I never thought he would last 130 myself. He did however face former superbantamweights in that division e.g. Morales, MAB and Larios so that certainly helped his cause. Solis I think was a former featherweight. Now he's facing Marquez who is a natural featherweight. If he was at 130 a few years ago there is no doubt in my mind he would have a harder time--- Freitas, Casamayor, Corralles, natural superfeathers all of them. I think prime versions of those would've beaten Pac.
if you're right, then just like erik, mab and larios, pac's a natural superbantam (122) and jmm a natural featherweight (126). when they last fought @126 in 2004, jmm was the bigger fighter. but come fight night, pac will be the bigger fighter for this 130-lbs championship fight. so, how did that happen? :huh
The same way Floyd was a natural jr. lightweight and Hatton a drained jr. welter. Pac packed on the muscles at 130, that explains why.
hmm... so, is it then correct to say that it helped pac's cause @130 having fought erik, mab and larios at that weight if all of them were natural 122-lbers in the first place? but i do agree that an elite prime natural 130-lb fighter would've given pac trouble at this weight.
What I'm saying is, Pac's had an easier time at 130 fighting guys who were coming up in weight themselves. If he were facing a true jr. lightweight he would have bigger problems.
yep. i do agree with you on this. but that natural 130-lbs fighter should also be at least an A-level to elite one.
Elite, prime versions of these 130 lbers that couldve beaten Pac: Joel Casamayor--- wouldve been a very tricky matchup. Freitas--- basically pac's orthodox mirror except Popo was the bigger fighter AND the bigger puncher. Corrales--- Too big and strong. I might add Barrios. That one is a tossup.
agree. but i think barrios is stretching it a bit as i think he definitely was never elite. probably, he was B+ at best.
Pacquiao and Marquez Autograph Hundreds of Gloves for the Promoters This content is protected LOS ANGELES -- It is a known fact that success of a boxing promotion depends on how it is promoted. Thus, the duo promotional companies, Bob Arum's Top Rank and Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions are leaving no stones unturned to assure that the March 15, 2008 fight dubbed as Unfinished Business will live up to all what is expected of it. The promoters are talking about the possibility of the fight ending up as the highest PPV in record before a sell out crowd at the Mandalay Bay Casino Resort in Las Vegas. To achieve these ends, they are organizing a series of press conferences and promotional extravaganzas across the United States and Mexico. This content is protected Manny Pacquiao (L) signs hundreds of gloves as trainer Buboy Fernandez (R) and a couple of guests look on. They are also talking about perks for people who spend great amounts of money to be part of the show. Amongst these people are those who buy the most expensive tickets and/or are co-sponsors of the event. Part of the perks for such people are Everlast Gloves personally signed by Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao. Today, prior to the Press Conference at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Marquez and Pacquiao signed hundreds of gloves. We will give them away as perks, someone from the promotions said when we ask why they are so many signed gloves.
Yep, Pac's head is big relative to his body and it even grown bigger recently. I clearly remember the 1st time he fought MAB and JMM, both of them looked so much bigger than Pac. Ranking them in terms of head size: Pac JMM (a close 2nd) MAB Consider that MAB has a huge head for a guy his size, I say this because I asw a photo of him sitting next to DLH and Mosley (all of them wearing suits) and both looked like kids next to MAB.
