:yep go back to the opening post and have a look at the faces. You think he had a tougher night than jmm? pacs face is relatively clearer compared to the previous 2 fights. and this was robbery.. YEA RIGHT!
Watch the fight again. Pacquiao fought a much more careful and tactical fight than usual. I find it funny how Pacquiao trying to fight a smarter fight is seen as Marquez controlling the action. Marquez didn't exactly fight as offensive as usual either. The bias working against Pac in this fight was off the chart
Both fighter's faces post-fight shouldn't be used to gauge who did the most damage. JMM has been in a ton of wars, particularly in the latter stages of his career. Therefore, he tends to cut/swell a lot easier than Pacquiao. A well-placed jab usually busts up the scar tissue underneath his right eye. In this fight Marquez clearly showed the better defense. It wasn't his head being bounced around throughout the match.
Look at Pacquiao's other fights his face is always swelled up too, so sorry I dont buy that excuse. Anyways Pacquiao won :mj
You do realize you're in the minority, right? Most ringsiders, boxing analysts, fighters, had JMM the winner.
Looking at the faces to determine who did more damage is pointless and stupid. Because Marquez focused his attack equally on the This content is protected and the head throughout the whole fight. Pacquiao didn't throw that many body shots thats for sure.
Excellent point that gets overlooked. JMM combos to the body was a thing of beauty. Its funny people use these pics of both fighters face after a fight like its actually a solid, valuable point.
Does anyone have a gif of Pac showing some good footwork in round 7 where he threw a combo and quickly moved away from a potential counter by JMM? Not saying Pac is masterful dfensively, but I just liked that one particular moment.
Exactly. I remember that one time, but that was it. JMM after his combinations mostly pivoted out of the Pacman's range. What alot of people don't bring up is even though Marquez landed the cleaner, more effective shots, it doesn't necessarily mean he was punching harder than Pacman. There were dozens of straight lefts by Manny with bad intentions that never found their mark. It really was a thrill to watch those killer lefts that might of ended the fight with any other opponent, miss their mark over and over and the speed and power behind them was pretty amazing, but they weren't landing, not that night. Manny still got a torn up lip, but conviniently doesn't get brought up in ******* threads. I thought Marquez's legs would fail him, but that's what really helped him in the view of most win the fight. Before the fight he said the legs were just or more important that your fists when it comes to fighting. Now I know why.
You have to look at this fight compared to the other 2. Pac landed the most in this fight and got hit with the least while landing his power shots at the higher connect rate. They had 24 rounds in the books with each other yet the only difference here was Manny was able to do 2 things he was not able to before 1) Be defensive and make JMM miss with monster swings and misses, which tired JMM out and killed his usual rally. Juanita was done after Round 7. 2) Pac while still able to land hooks, lefts and jabs but this time he negated JMM's combination punching. The right hook made Juan limited in his attack. One punch at a time and pack pedaling not gonna win you any PPV fights vs Pacquiao. This content is protected
Since Pac fans are quoting these numbers, we can go with HBO compubox, hehe Pacquiao: Threw 578, 176 connected, averaged 14 per round, 402 missed Marquez: Threw 435, 138 connected, averaged 11 per round, 297 missed So we are talking about an average distinction of 3 punches a round and 105 missed punches. And this is my 500 post since 2007, yey! Haha
