There is nothing out there in 2008 that adds up to this. Vasquez Marquez is outstanding, and so is Cotto Margarito. But this is the ultimate PFP match up of equal fighters who both come to fight. It is jaw dropping because of the virtuoso talent, the heart, and the danger involved at every moment. It is a modern ring classic. The contenders are close, but the winner is obvious.

I disagree and this is coming from a huge Pacfan.

Pac/JMM II was great but it didnt have the huge climax ending that Margo/Cotto and Izzy/Marquez III had.

Vazquez - Marquez 3 was one of the best fights EVER. Not just of this year.

IMO, its leagues above everything else that happened in 08.

I think that Vasquez Marquez is something special, but it is on a lower plane. Nothing is missing in that fight. It has everything it needs to be considered great. But Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez are fighters that define their era. They are the best that existed at that time.

Their match defines 2008 boxing (and the surrounding years) far more then any other fight could have.

Obviously a lot of people are going to disagree with you...It was an excellent fight and makes my top 5 for the year...not my number 1 however.

    fair enough.

but i chose vasq-marq based on build up (after all it was the 3rd fight in a breathe taking trilogy), back & fourth action, drama (last round KD), controversy (last round), and imo vasq needed that kd to win..

Vasquez-Marquez 3 was IMO the best fight of the year...but you could argue margo-Cotto because of Tony's style and how he kept coming forward!

    Vasquez-Marquez 3
    Cotto-Margo a close 2nd

i kinda agree. they were the #2 and #3 top boxers in the world when they fought. it was a great fight where both top fighters displayed top level skills. it's not as much as action-packed as vazquez-marquez or the drama of cotto-margarito but the level of tactics displayed by both pac and jmm were both grade A performances.

    Controversial Statement time:

    my FOTY was: Adamek-Cunningham
    2) Cotto - Margo
    3) Vazquez - Marquex III
    4) BHops demolition of Pavlik

Co-signed. Vasquez-Marquez III was probably the third best fight of the 12-round championship era (behind Corrales-Castillo I and Taylor-Chavez I).

    Personally, I don't have Pac-JMM in my top 5.
