I was impressed by how Mayweather used the standard headshot jab against Ortiz. He only used that kind of jab 2-3 times against Zab.
At the Mosley/Mayweather post fight press conference, someone asked Mayweather if that was the most hurt he's ever been in his career. (The shots he took from Shane in round 2.) Floyd said: 'No. Zab Judah hit me with a better shot, and DeMarcus Chop Chop Corley hit me with a better shot.' [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl8btb5pBMo[/ame]
Ya he was very effective with that shot in the fight with Ortiz. Ortiz squares up and becomes an easy target for that jab. I disagree with people who say Floyd has an identical game plan for all southpaws. Watch Ortiz fight and Judah fight and you can see that he doesn't.
Don't tell me I don't know **** about boxing when you disregard the fundamentals I highlighted and then say Pacquiao isn't an elite world class fighter. Plain bias. Getting outboxed by Marquez doesn't make you "exposed." Maybe Floyd is just being stubborn, but it could have been one of those shots that wobbles your legs but doesn't shake up your vision and such.
Could be this case. Someone interviews him later at the same presser, and he keeps it a secret about which punch hurt him the most.
You didn't highlight any fundamentals for a counter puncher. Zab did a tremendous job. A job that Pac could not do on his best night. To date, Zab is the most competitive fight against FMJ since passing LWW. Also, the JMM debacle was just the latest telling event in a string ducks and cherry picks which have made this fraud which is Pac. We can see his pattern of ducking technical Boxers his entire career. Even going so far as to fight the losers of match-ups to avoid technical fighters. This dude has now made it all the way up to LMW and has yet to face a technical Pure Boxer other than JMM. The same JMM that FMJ made look like a rank amateur. Pac picks Brawlers which is exactly why Bradley got the nod. Flat footed defensively limited come forward Brawlers always do. Somehow you fools think Pac has some answer? Please. Yeah I am biased. I am biased towards the truth. :deal
Good article, some points we've been harping on for years. But it's too late at this point. Pac has slowed down way too much, he's not as aggressive, doesn't throw combinations like he used to, and he seems to run out of energy a bit now whereas before he was the energizer bunny. Prime pac from the Cotto fight vs a prime Floyd (say from the Marquez fight) would have given him all kinds of problems and I would have picked him at that stage. But he's declined faster then Floyd.
