It's simple- topic mentions Mosley name and you are wrong when you are saying EPO testing was not available. It has been available since 2000 by both urine and blood testing. Do more research:deal
And I was addressing Mosley - not Pac. WTF??? Do you even understand what the whole BALCO thing was? Let me put it this way. BALCO was able to package and recreate new and common PEDs, INCLUDING EPO to pass ALL current testing methods of that time - INCLUDING urine analysis for EPO. Yes, there was URINE testing at that time for EPO, but it was NEW and Conte EPO regime already compensated for that. Read his interview and explanation. He explains how proper cycling and dosage change and masking agents and slight variation on the drug allowed him to pass all those tests for his clients. So again, do you research. I really don't think you have a full grasp of this EPO thing, let alone PED topic. You make it sound like everyone is taking the same Tylenol the same way, the same amount and at the same time. Far from it.
Agreed. Mayweather will obviously know how widespread it is too; he's been at the center of the sport for a long time. I don't know how he can be criticised for requesting random blood tests during training camp when so much is on the line. I think the reason the official PED testing regime isn't rigorous is because it will also have to apply to smaller, low profile fights - which isn't logistically or financially feasible.
First off, you have to test for it. Taking a drug does not mean you are tested for every drug there is. Current Nevada testing is mostly for narcotics (cocaine, marijuana, etc), diuretics and caffeine and such. I have not checked lately but only a small handful of PEDs are actually tested for. this is true especially in the past. Second, you assume there is a test for all specific PED. The famous "Clear" by BALCO for example is anabolic steroid that had bypasses traditional testing. There where test for anabolics at the time BUT NOT for the Clear.
I don't assume anything. What I do know and I am sure we can agree that the testing that they do now is bogus for the most part. Hell I would even be all in for them doing pre fight urine test at random but they aren't even willing to do that. I wonder why? Boxing is dirty and we all know that.
Drug testing is a CONSTANT game of cat and mouse. Once a drug is able to be tested, some doctor somewhere (nutritionist with a BA is not going to do this) will find a way to get around that through various means (dosage change, cycling method, packaging change, etc). It gets to the point that it gets very expensive to tests for all known PEDs. The problem with boxing is it is basically an industry of freelancers. Contracts are done per event and have slight variation from fight to fight, even if it is the exact same fighters, venue, promoters, broadcasters, etc. So the money factor changes every time. Since it is not constant it is very hard to standardized everything other than those that has been set through tradition (glove size, rounds, weight, etc). So I am unsure how you can implement testing that is fair for all, especially the boxers, who will likely eat the burden of cost. There are politics, money, medical/scientific, and others why testing is not done also. For example, many NFL players are oppose to testing because some use HGH for recovery purposes. They have argued that without it, many players would not be able to play the full 16 game schedule and have shorter careers. If you look at it strictly in a medical point-of-view - they are correct. NFL owners knowing this is the reason they are a little hesitant to push really hard for more stringent testing. You don't want to risk your franchise player to injury or banning and end up losing game$$$$$. I would love to see testing in boxing, but you are not going to get a fair and accurate one unless you fix the sanctioning bodies and have better rules governing promoters.
that whole post was a very good read.:good The highlighted part, I wonder if once stronger tests are in place (that can actually have a chance...you know), if the promoters and entire team of a guilty fighter had to endure strict penalties that would indeed then have to be enforced...:!:...that might cut it down. the people around guys would have to know?
You are contradicting yourself back and forth. First you say there was no testing, now there was testing available for EPO since I mention it. You are confuse and should do more research. When fighters like Manny and Floyd are involve, millions are available and any random testing urine or blood should be no problem. Floyd and Shane agreed to random testing and Manny should follow and prove to everyone and let alone to be the leader and example for boxing for olympic style testing. The guy made how much in his last fight. Stop bringing the excuse on how expensive it is. RANDOM is the key word!
No I am not. You are confused because you do not fully comprehend what PED testing means. When you test for a PED often it only applies to a specific type taken in some a specific manner, dosage, etc. For example, some PEDs are tested not for the drug itself but signatures of the masking agent or stimulant that is used to bypass the testing method. Manny Martinez was busted for levels HCG, which can be either to increase testosterone or prevent your balls from "shrinking" when taking too much steroids (testicular atrophy). HCG hormone is not what makes him get more muscle but HCG triggers higher testosterone production, and that is what he really needs. Conte for example used the Clear. There are test for specific anabolic steroid BUT NOT for the Clear. Not until BALCO was busted until a a test for THG (aka Clear) was developed. This is why you are confused. You do not fully comprehend why Mosley, Marion Jones and such where able to pass the test in past. BECAUSE SPECIFIC PEDs do not have dependable method to test for them (or at least when they where being tested). Only recently the test for THG was developed, but that does not mean there are tests for OTHER anabolic steroids. Saying "Take the Test" means **** if the method does not exist for a specifc drug you are looking for. Second, EPO- what is Mosley admitted to using is tested via URINE. That is how WADA tests for it. BLOOD TEST with Pac is where they have conflict. It is no secret that they are willing to give UNLIMITED urine tests anytime and anywhere. If you are going to ask - URINE is used to test for the Clear (THG).
tests results are good enough for me. AND pac looked like ****..so why does he still need to take random olympic tests?
We all know there is different PEDs and methods, it's not rocket science. And it's not Manny Martinez, it's Manny Ramirez I simply said Mosley and Manny passing this test doesnt mean anything. And EPO is not only tested by urine, olympic style testing has been using both blood and urine testing for EPO since 2000, since this was becoming use widely by many athletes and popularity increasing in the 1990's. You need to do more research. I simply am trying to say boxing needs random testing(blood and urine) like other sports have taken measures. Simple as that, dont know why you keep on confusing yourself.
It's not only Manny, but this should be accross the board esp. for title bouts. Everyone thinks Manny has been the first person to have been requested a PED test from another fighter.
Then does it not mean "Take the Test" means nothing also? In 2000 blood and urine testing was used. Since then WADA and others have migrated solely on urine based. From WADA: Blood is used but mostly to save money by some.
