Here we go again. atsch Its better to argue on MAIS vs KAMOTE rather than fight over the never ending regionalism.
you would be surprised, a lot of weird **** like this happens in other professions as well....like 2 famous men's designers (cannot for the life of remember who, just some odd fact i heard/read on the web one day) went to the same school...and some other stuff like that
poor people have to literally fight for their lives. it's not poverty that made Mike Tyson great, but it probably gave him the killer instinct and heart.
Actually i know of a neighborhood with 3 hw champs all within a few years Tyson,Bowe and Briggs. Tyson,Bowe even went to grade school with each other. Tyson,Bowe were both on the pfp list and Tyson was number 1 for awhile... There have been lot of cities, neighborhoods with champs at the same time... I live near Azusa,Ca population only 40,000 and they had 2 champs same neighborhood around the same era Paul Banke and Then Zack Padilia won the title a couple years later... Pomona had 3 world champs around the same time Mike Weaver,RIchie Sandoval,Albert Davila and years later Shane Mosley... Pacoima small San Fernando valley community in LA Had 2 champs at the same time (or very close) Bobby Chacon,Jamie Garza.... Pensacola Fl,,, Jones,Gainer,Vince Phillips,Arthur Williams all champs around the same time... Youngstown Oh Mancini,Richardson,Arroyo,Lampkin all around the same time and later Pavlik.. All these cities^^^ Small towns or areas with a couple or mulitiple world champs either at the same time or very close.
Nonito learned was raised and learned to box in the Bay area(Northern Cali) and General Santos City has nothing to do with Nonitos boxing ability. He is from San Leandro,Ca
Ok pare. I don't think it's the food. Maiz vs pandesal.I have been to both regions well not entirely. The north is much like any western world albeit a lot more hectic, tall building everywhere and traffic. In the South It is poorer heck many people have to rough it out. DO think they are two different worlds almost two different countries.
Ok more come to mind... Genaro Hernandez -Oscar Delahoya were both elite fighters and pfp guys when they clashed, and both from rival high Schools... I know LA is a big city but their high schools (in East LA) are fierce rivals only about 2 miles apart.. In East LA they actually took sides Genaro from Roosevelt and Delahoya from Garfield.. THeir football games have an attendance of over 40,000 fans(unheard of on the west coast) and alumni rivalry going back something like 70 years. Danny Romero-Johnny Tapia were 2 elite guys who trained at the same gym as kids.. With Tapia even being trained by Romeros dad for awhile. THis was a one of the biggest fights ever in the lighter weightclasses (outside of Carbajal-Chiquita). I know there is alot more., that i can think of later, especially if i think back a little furhter. Really this isnt as rare as you think it is... Oh yeah i think Jimmy Ellis and ALi grew up together in Louisville... I believe Greg Page was also from the same neighborhood in Louisville thats 3 hw champs.. And 2 at the same time.
Neither boxer is originally from Gen. Santos. Pac is from the same province but from a smaller town. Donaire is from Bohol, an island in the central part of the Philippines. Both went to the same boxing academy. Pac is a few years older and thus didn't get to know Donaire all that well. Buboy did train Nonito and know each other very well.
Yes its true thats why we people from CEBU will try to belittle guys from manila too. its a silent war between cebuanos and tagalogs. even our congressmen here passed a bill to separate cebu from the country as a state but it was not amended.
yeah navarette too came from gensan. its not just boxers but also dancers. it was from gensan dancers who won the first SHOWTIME finals.
