Trainer Freddie Roach thinks it’s very unlikely for Manny Pacquiao to slide back down to 135 pounds after fighting Oscar dela Hoya at 147 pounds on Dec. 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Roach told yesterday’s PSA Forum through phone patch from his Los Angeles quarters that he sees Pacquiao closing out his checkered career with big fights at the 140-pound division.

The two-time Trainer of the Year said fighting Dela Hoya at 147 pounds, at welterweight, could be a one-shot deal, and that they wouldn’t consider fighting whoever is out there in this class.
"I wouldn’t fight anybody out there at 147 pounds. I think 140 is his (new) fighting weight and 140 is the most realistic weight," Roach said as PSA members listened.

Top Rank president Todd du Beof joined the PSA phone patch and talked about all the excitement being brought by the coming fight, saying "there’s nothing else like it except probably the World Series or the Super Bowl."
Pacquiao is the current WBC lightweight (135 pounds) champion after knocking out David Diaz last June 28. Before that fight, he took the WBC super-featherweight (130 pounds) crown from Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao is getting older and is not getting lighter, and the 29-year-old superstar admitted that making 135 pounds is no longer an easy task, and that he may no longer be at his best in that division.

Problems with the WBC sanction fees have also made Pacquiao think twice about sliding back to 135 pounds and defending his crown after the Dela Hoya fight.
The WBC is asking Pacquiao to pay 0,000 as sanction fee for the Dela Hoya fight or he will be stripped of the lightweight title. Negotiations are ongoing between Pacquiao’s camp and the WBC.

If he gives up the lightweight crown, Pacquiao will end up fighting at 140 pounds until he retires next year. A big win over Dela Hoya can set him up for even bigger fights with either Ricky Hatton or Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Roach said training for the coming "Dream Match" has intensified, with sparring breaking the 100-round barrier this week. So far, after more than a month of sparring, Pacquiao has logged in 98 rounds.

"On Tuesday (today in Manila) we’ll continue to spar 10 rounds and on Thursday it’ll also be 10 rounds. Then on Saturday we’ll do 12 rounds and next week we’d slide down to 10, eight, six and four," said Roach in the session sponsored by Shakey’s, Accel, Brickroad gym and Aspen spa and MedCentral Medical Clinic and Diagnostic Center.

"On December One, we’ll head for Vegas. Then we’ll beat Oscar, and soon after that Manny will become the welterweight champion of the world," said Roach.

No surprise. The biggest money fights are above 135.

why the **** does the wbc want a sanction fee for the DLH fight when Pacman is fighting way above the 135 lb weight class.

what makes them think they deserve money from this fight?

With the exception of a Hatton fight, I think a 3rd fight against JMM at 135 makes more money than any fight that can be made at 140.

Thats alot of looking ahead being done by the Pac camp.

Like the Pac team did vs JMM, they did a whole lot of looking ahead......
its probably their way of letting the powers that be (boxing and judges) know that the sport is better off that Pacquiao wins......
....all these little mind games that team Pac plays to get them the benefit of the doubt in the eyes of the judges.

.....but I think its getting worse now with the Pac team.

I'm begginging to feel just like the JMM fight......if this fight is'nt onesided in favor of DLH, the situation is being setup so that Pac walks away with an undeserving victory.

What DLH is now saying is probably true, if he does'nt score a KO, he'll consider it a disaster.

no. pac and roach already said that if jmm wants a 3rd fight, he must be willing to go up to 140.

Its imposssible for PAC to go down at 135 again, As it will not be easy for him to lose the muscles he gain at 147. If jmm wants some then it will be at 140.

divac, there you go again with your conspiracy theories.... just like when nacho said that there was a conspiracy against him and the marquez bros. when both rafa and jmm lost those fights one after the other. :-(

I'm happy... I hope Pacquiao does go to 140. Fights against Hatton, Bradley and Judah would be very exciting.

How do you explain all that looking ahead being done by Roach and team?????

Pac is really going up three weight classes here, and they're already dismissing DLH as if he were 2nd tier?
This is a fight where Manny Pacquiao can very well get truly battered and hurt, yet they're talking as if they're fighting a journeyman.....

.....it just does'nt make any sense, unless they're trying to brainwash people in high places!

Pac is going to fight Hatton. Hopefully Floyd will come out of retirement and fight Pac. That is the biggest fight that can be made in boxing in a long time.

well, i for one don't like all this looking ahead bit by the pacquiao camp. they should be concentrating all their time and energies at the task at hand which is the dlh fight. there's too much distraction there with all these talks about future plans.

Maybe so but because JMM's Ring title would be at stake at 135 it would just add interest and appeal to the storyline. A fight between these two is gonna be big no matter what weight they fight at but at 135 the belt provides additional incentive to the viewing audience.

At this point in time for Manny, belt is immaterial anymore. Belt won't be any factor anymore in his quest for a higher ranking in the ATG. Name will suffice as he is on his last phase of boxing. The excitement that can be generated in his last bouts are what will reverberate in years to come, but more importantly for him is the amount of money generated as he will need a ton of it for his expected candidacy in Phil. politics.
