LW's that could have gone on and beat Oscar that night: Marquez and Valero without question, but no one else, with the ever so slightest chance of say Ali Funeka.

4 years isn't quite 7, but it's getting there and Sergio now is older than Oscar was, plus the "naturally" much bigger man.

Yeah, he was a total weight drained zombie in his last career fight, but it doesn't make the win meaningless. Is it the least meaningful win anyone has had over Oscar? Yeah. But still a good one.

 

Agreed. I never watched the fight but apparently Manny was heavier on fight night Hell hes been weighing in at welterweight since his junior lightweight days. He was enjoying a HUGE advantage there.

 

just too many strings attached to this fight, oscar weight drained, hadnt fought in WW in 7 years, he looked like a zombie, oscar was only in it for the money, makes this fight, at least for me, not a great win. Cotto Win is better

 

Oscar was indeed removed from his best, but still, it was a sensational performance by Manny considering the weight jump and how everyone was convinced he had no business being in the ring with Oscar. His movement, defence, attack and everything was him at his very best. If his skills didn't impress you that night, then they surely did in his following fights against Hatton and Cotto.

Unfortunately, Margarito beat the prime out of him, in my opinion. Pac was on fire up until that point. Margarito fazed him down.

 

just not sure how it's a masterclass considering the opponent. Might as well post a video of Norris vs Ray Leonard or Holmes vs Ali.

I know it's not Pacquiao's fault, but it just isn't a good win regardless.
He drained himself because he wanted the paycheck lol
Corrales had significant height and reach advantage over Mayweather. Doesn't mean much, especially when your body is a light potato lol
He had experience in fighting in that weight class, but for almost a decade he was at 154lbs, so your line of reasoning isn't too good.
He was at lightweight fighting David Diaz, but the whole 'super featherweight' thing doesn't matter as his weight on fight night was much higher.

Sure, it's still a good feat with the whole weight cutting thing...but not THAT great.

I was butthurt when I found that Manny can no longer be in my Top 30.
