is he one of the greatest? do you think he's one of the most exciting to watch (in his prime)? do you enjoy his offensive style?
He was great offensively but could have been greater because there were fighters that landed more jabs and used the jab better than Manny, plus when he did jab he let his rear hand low which left him open to counter rights, JMM caught him with a counter right which knocked him out in their forth fighht, I think that stops him from being an OTG for me personally depsite all his other offensive tricks and Floyd`s counter right had him scared in their bout, which is why he didn`t throw many shots and tried to steal that bout by nicking it landing the odd shot, he was nervous of throwing the jab in that bout which is a punch you need to trow vs a fast fighter like Floyd, a great offensive fighter with too many flaws for me I`d say.
Pacquiao is the GOAT. A former FLYWEIGHT that legends in the game needed drugs to beat him. One ducked him for 5 years. Marquez (doping) Mayweather (doping) Should be undefeated at welterweight: Bradley I (robbery) Horn (robbery) Marquez (doping) Mayweather (doping) Pacquiao also hurt his career by going into politics (distractions) and becoming a throughout religious nut.
I would disagree with some arguments you made here. Pacquiaos failure to keep his right hand up before he got koed by marquez wouldnt have a difference if he had it up. It was a foot placement error on pacquiaos part. As marquez changed position and slipped to pacs right, pac was still doing his stutter step feint that he used to use. Even if he had his left hand up at the time, marquez had already split his feint and was going to land regardless. Also a southpaw jab against floyd is largely ineffective. Especially with how short mannys reach is
I think he will crack ANY credible top 50 ATG list and is likely top 30. I am not sure he will crack any credible (newer is better fans or people who rate on an imaginary h2h ability might disagree) top 20 lists. I am not a fan, meaning I don’t root for him...however an appreciator of his big time. He was a great and explosive fighter in his prime and even post peak above his naturally suited weight class. Top 30 for me probably in the 25-28 range but it has been a while since I have compiled a list.
I think I had Pacquiao about 12 and Mayweather 13 all time last time I checked. Their resumes warrant very high placement in the pantheon of boxing gods.
Yes he is one of the greatest. Yes he is exciting to watch. Yes I enjoy his offensive style. You gotta respect a guy that Floyds willing to duck for so many years when he also knew how much money hed make if he took the fight, and he loves money.
Probably top 15-10 for me. Anyone’s top 10 I could easily make a case for replacing 1 fighter on there. I remember these forums asking if he would be top 10 if he did this and this and this was 10 years ago. He did all that and more. Who would be clearly over him? Duran, srl, srr, possibly Ali depending if you are basing it purely on record or life, Floyd arguably, rjj arguably though doubtful, can make a case for jcc and Armstrong. Not sure what to make of guys like Greb, an era too far gone with no videos, no real context to it their wins against. And if we were to go with an unbiased way of doing it, he’s easily 1 of the 2 greatest fighters of the last 20 years, so depending on how you see it, there’s 140 years of history but it really only properly starts around 1920 so 100 years. No.1 in last 20 years by average would put him somewhere in the top 5, no.2 in the last 20 years would put him somewhere in the top 10. Unless you are very biased towards certain eras, thinking some eras deserve 20 atgs in the top 20 yet a guy who who is considered one of the greatest of this era can’t even break the top 20, doesn’t even make sense.
He's an ATG. Not that his resume can't be nitpicked though. It definitely can be and with valid arguments. But since that can be done with pretty much everybody, he's still an ATG.
Let me think a moment. 1.Ray Robinson 2.Henry Armstrong 3.Harry Greb 4.Ezzard Charles 5.Sam Langford 6.Archie Moore 7.Mickey Walker 8.Roberto Duran 9.Benny Leonard 10.Ray Leonard 11.Willie Pep 12.Manny Pacquiao 13.Floyd Mayweather Jr. 14.Pernell Whitaker 15.Tony Canzoneri 16.Jimmy McLarnin 17.Roy Jones Jr. 18.Muhammad Ali 19.Eder Jofre 20.Joe Louis Something like that.
1 SRR 2 Armstrong 3 Greb 4 Langford 5 Charles 6 Fitzsimmons 7 Benny Leonard 8 Joe Louis 9 Ali 10 Joe Gans 11 Duran 12 Mickey Walker 13 Archie Moore 14 Willie Pep 15 SRL 16 Barney Ross 17 George Dixon 18 Jimmy Wilde 19 George McGovern 20 Packy McFarland Would be my guesses...I think somewhere after this JCC, Whitaker, Floyd RJJ and Pac would start to gain some traction. To me top 30 is realistic. Not meant as a knock on him, but trying to have a balanced perspective of him and boxing historically...I don’t see top 20 unless you rate on H2H
