Pacquiao should have fought Casamayor.

I have no idea why Pacquiao didn't fight Joel Casamayor at 135 instead of waiting to fight Diaz, who was a very weak titleholder.

Seriously, why didn't he fight Casamayor?

Apparently they were testing the waters of lightweight, until the lucrative ODLH offer came which was at welterweight, and there was no turning back from such glamorous division with bigger names during those times.

He didnt wait for Diaz he fought him three months after the second JMM fight.

Casamayor would have been a good name to have on his resume and it would be a more important fight at the time cause Casa was the Ring champ if im not mistaken.

With that said Casa was well past it he was coming of a war with Katsidis and before that he was the beneficiary of one of the worst decisions in recent times in his fight with Santa Cruz and later in the same year of Pac vs Diaz he was stopped by Marquez.

Should he have fought him instead of Diaz? For me yes.

Why it didnt happen i dont know probably only Arum and Roach know cause Pac fought whoever they told him to fight.

With all that said that version of Casa would have been wrecked by Pac.

And Juan Diaz.. He didn't dare to be great at lightweight. He literally fought a terrible titlist in David Diaz who became titlist by winning a controversial decision to Morales, who was shot.

JMM KO'd Joel just a few months after Pac v Diaz. The Pac went to 147 for the Goldy Fawn, fighting Oscar just three months after Casa v JM. Just didn't line up. Timing and fighter schedules are a HUGE reason we miss a lot of fights in boxing

I watched Casamayor vs Katsidis a few days ago, and they were talking about how he had vacated a title and that despite it he was still the main man in the division.

I also watched Julio Diaz vs Juan Diaz, where David was in the audience and they said he was probably the weakest of the Diaz trio.

That was just a title grab. Hard to consider him a LW champ.

When Pac moves to 130lb he was already considered past his peak weight. His punches weren’t having the same effect as they were at 122/126. So 135 was considered a test to see if Pac could get carry that weight. For a tuneup at that weight, he fought David Diaz and to be honest his lack of power showed as he landed at will on Diaz and Diaz took a lot.

There was simply nobody who could have taken that many clean punches from him at 122/126.

Then Floyd backed out of the ODLH rematch which was scheduled for 147, so ODLH needed a replacement opponent. Enter Pacquiao who up to that point was considered maybe too small for 135 with only 1 tuneup there, being dragged up to 147. And the rest is history.

So I find it funny when people claim that victory had no meaning like everyone else does a similar feat, and even worse, that it was a “catchweight” or him draining odlh down to 147. Either disingenuous or new o boxing, as it was floyd who was dragging Oscar to 147 and Pac was suppose to be ODLH cherrypick for an easy replacement opponent. 90% of Ring magazine editors picked ODLH and many thought this was outright a suicide fight.

When Pac was at 130 he was hydrating to a welterweight.

Agapito Sanchez easily took Pac's punches. In fact, Pac should have lost that fight.

ODLH wa a shell of himself, a shell, not past his prime, but completely shot and fighting in a division he had not made in 10 years.

Yes, many of us didn't realize he was going to come in nearly pushed to the ring in a wheelchair for the fight, but the fact remains that it was the weakest version of ODLH ever.
