"Pacquiao should retire"

Pac has already stated he only had 2 or 3 more fights in him. If the Mayweather fight doesn't happen this year sometime, I don't think it will every happen.

While riding the bus this morning, my eye (and ear) caught an attractive middle-aged lady in front of me chatting excitedly with the driver. She looked a bit liked a much more faded and scrawnier (and less white) version of Jennifer Tilly, and had a somewhat similar voice, but even more feminine. I wouldn't quite call her a MILF but wouldn't kick her out of bed either. She was discussing her upcoming three day weekend, which is her first significant time off since taking her son to Orlando, Florida. She kept raving about "smoked turkey legs" and when the driver mentioned that they aren't indigenous to Orlando, as there was a smoked turkey legs vendor at the Springfield State Fair, she giggled and said "He must have been from Orlando, Florida!" (this is all with a bit of an accent, mind you. Adorable).

Anyway, I tuned out after a while until the names Pacman and Mayweather started rattling about. This dame was a boxing fan (at least a casual one) as was the driver. Interesting. They both lamented the dissolution of the mega-fight, and the woman (who, as it became increasingly apparent, is a pinoy-American) stated that she is worried about Manny and thinks he should retire as he has a net worth of $70 million and should not push his so-far-so-good luck of not getting badly hurt (she kept harping about him having a bandage on his ear and wringing her hands nervously). She said that the (PI) public was ready to embrace him as a politician and showbusiness figure. As we arrived at our destination the driver, showing a good deal of knowledge for a blue-collar guy, pointed out that politics could be just as dangerous citing the recent kidnappings and assassinations. She just giggled and said "Well, yes..."

Anyway, that was interesting to me when it happened...but seems less so now that it's written. Maybe you had to be there.

The impetus for making this into a thread is: do Pacquiao's fans, and specifically his countrymen, think he should compete as long as he's physically able to compete (basically until he ages overnight and/or his body breaks down and he gets beaten up) continuing to take risks for pride against dangerous foes like Clottey and perhaps eventually the Mosley-Berto winner; or is there a silent majority like this woman who always tune in and support him but secretly wish he'd call it quits and count his money in peace?

it would be nice for pac to retire on top win/lose should he have fought Floyd. Floyd didn't give him that opportunity.

Man as an official "Pac-hater" I think Manny, should the fight go well with Clottey, fight FMJ and call it a day. I honestly don't feel that he has ANYTHING to gain by fighting a guy like Mosley. A fight with Mayweather will be low damage, high pay, and Mayweather is so damn good that a SD is a win... Ride off into the sunset a Filipino hero!

Good post! I think he should retire soon. After his fight with Clottey and probably the winner of berto/mosley or pbf. I think he has proven enough.

3 at WW (clottey, floyd, mosley)
1 at JWW (bradley or any titleholder)
1 at JMW (any titleholder)

still depends on the result of the fights (first 2 or 3 fights). if he loses his first two fights (including the clottey fight) then i say the last 3 fights should be at 140. if he beats clottey, but loses his next fight (say to floyd), then move down to 140 and face bradley (or any tough titleholder) then move up again and fight mosley (assuming that shane beats floyd). win or lose, i think his last fight should be at 154 for his 8th belt.

No Pac fan should ever want to see him take anybody at 154 lbs who's good enough to hold any alphabet title.

Not Martinez, not Dzinziruk, not the winner of Spinks-Bundrage, not even Yuri Foreman.
