Except for the fact that Floyd unified against Canelo, and beat reigning titleholders at 154 in Cotto and DLH. Pacquiao defeated basically a career welterweight in a one off at the weight for a vacant trinket and left. Not exactly equivalent accomplishments at that particular weight.

Wait did you just imply that Fluid's dip into 154 is worth more than Pac's? They are both shat.

Oh, I absolutely did. Floyd's dip into 154 is probably better than Trinidad's. Pac's...isn't.

Floyd beat a drained Canelo, DLH was virtually retired having only his 2nd fight in 2 years, better than Margarito? I'd say about even if only slightly better due to the circumstances, Cotto was better though for 154 "legacy" although Margarito had already slapped him about.

Are you saying beating a drained Canelo, semi retired ODLH and Cotto is better than Vargas, Reid and Thiam?

    Yep.

Canelo, who weighed only one pound less than he did against Trout in his previous fight, is roughly the equivalent of Feroz.

DLH may have been increasingly inactive, but I'd take the 2006-2007 version to mutilate the rather basic Thiam-in roughly the same fashion that defeated Mayorga. Beating a talented but flawed Reid wasn't out of the question for that iteration of DLH, either. And Cotto was just as accomplished and probably just as good as Reid was, anyway.

Both Trinidad and Mayweather unified and became lineal at 154lbs, but I think, even taking into account the fact that DLH was past-prime and Canelo's "drained" state, that those wins stack up better than Tito's three fight run that the weight.

2006 DLH still had enough left in the tank to mutilate Margarito at 154lbs. AM's major accomplishments at that weight were losing a decision to the immortal Daniel Santos, and having Cotto return the favor, at a point when he and Margarito were considered to have suffered similar levels of deterioration. AM was a force for a while at WW...at 154lbs...Not so much.

Canelo for me is the best fighter of the bunch, but he was forced to fight at a catch weight which considering the fact that Floyd went on to fight Cotto at the full weight should be held against him.

But in retrospect you make a good point but I just think Vargas and Reid are better wins than a drained Canelo.

I'd always take DLH over Margarito in a H2H,better fighter in every way.

It wasn't much of a catch-weight, so I still think there's value to that win, in spite of the asterisk. I can live with the idea that Vargas was maybe a bit better than Canelo at that point, but Reid was already showing signs of being there to be taken by the time he met Tito and I view Canelo as a better win.

    Agree to disagree, I suppose.

As an aside, Canelo-El Feroz is a crazy good fantasy match-up.

Oscar bragged he wanted the winner of Cotto-Margarito 1 so he could "go out with a win in a blaze of glory" Then he saw what Magarito did to Cotto & quickly changed his tune ROFL
Karma was served when Manny made Oscar submit & QUIT!!!
No one wanted to face Margarito but he had to be got rid off
    Hence the railroading A travesty

Reid was a very flawed fighter with very good handspeed and really nice right hand. In the current 154 division, he'd come in behind Lara, Hurd, and Charlo (jury's out on Munguia). I was a big fan of Reid, but between the eyelid/defensive issues and his mental problems, he wasn't gonna go much further than he did.

Reid was an Olympic gold medalist and did well to decision Bouduani (a really nice result), but he was wobbled by the unheralded Coker and was dropped by Kelley. Plus, the drooping eyelid meant that he was on borrowed time, anyway. Talented boxer...But I don't think his ceiling was much higher than what he achieved during a relatively short career.
