Pacquiao the only modern fighter to have these qualities?

Elite power does not by definition mean knockouts, Knockouts are a by product of having elite power but does not define elite power, among the elite in Pac's era his power was highly respected and that alone tells you it was elite. Out of his first 62 fights he had 39 knockouts and by the same token, Mike Tyson had 44 knockouts out of 58 fights. Not much difference there. Saying that knockouts is the only measure of elite power is ludicrous.

 

He was always a speedy volume puncher with power since he was young. Those did not end with 1,300 counts or so because those ended early. It was always his style from the beginning. A non-speedster like Margo could also produce such output.

Of course his bout with Margo would result to a very high count, since Margo was bigger with high threshold durability compared to Manny, who kept coming forward with no head movement, slipping, etc. He was easier to hit, and the ref refused to stop it.

Likewise with Clottey who kept moving forward with a very tight guard with thick arms to cover him. Such was easier to land punches too. So for 12 rounds, the count accumulated.

 

I did. I often saw Manny fight live on weekly TV boxing when he was young. That was always his style. He was not cerebral, just overwhelm and overwhelm. Margo could also produce such output himself with his own punches maintaining the same energy for 12 rounds, IIRC.

 

Until Montreal that is.
But he was always more heavy handed than explosive.

Much much more skilled than pacquiao though,
Just nowhere near as dedicated and just moved up above 147 by getting fat instead of gaining muscle.

 

Duran was super explosive at lightweight though. His reflexes at 135lbs are the best that I have seen this side of Roy Jones. His handspeed was also in Pacquiao's league at this weight.

 

He was a juicer bigtime.

He wasn't knocking out his opponents when he went up to the Welterweight limit & those tired old quotes are not factual that you liken to repeat so often made famously by a petrified cherry picker.
