He's the second best HW to retire undefeated... EVER! A true legend. Great boxer. Better person. RIP.
Given the promptings of a certain Floyd nuthugger I decided to re-evaluate my 2010s ranking and I will concede that if I'm being totally objective then Floyd deserves to be on it. So, here is my revised and updated ranking of where the best boxers of the 2010s stand in relation to one another. Elite Opponents, weight classes, title fights since 2010 1.Roman Gonzalez- Estrada, Viloria, Cuadras, Yaegashi, Sosa, 4, 13 2.Pacquiao- Bradleyx3, Margarito, old Mosley, 2, 9 3.Mayweather- Cotto, Alvarez, old Mosley, 2, 8 4.Nonito Donaire - Montiel, Narvaez, Darchinyan, Arce, 4, 10 5.Andre Ward- Kovalev*, Froch, Bika, Abraham, 2, 8 6.Sergey Kovalev- Ward, Pascal, Cleverly, 1, 10 7.Gennady Golovkin- Jacobs, 1, 19 8.Terence Crawford - Postol, 2, 9 9.Guillermo Rigondeaux- Donaire, 1, 10 10.Saul Alvarez- old Mosley, old Cotto, Trout, 1, 10 11.Mikey Garcia- Broner, 4, 5 12.Naoya Inoue- Narvaez, 3, 8 13.Vasyl Lomachenko- 2, 8 14. Sergio Martinez- Pavlik, Williams, 1, 7 15. Errol Spence Jr.- Brook, 1, 1 *I'm not going to count the Floyd/Pac fight for the same reason I don't accept the Cotto/Martinez fight as legitimate. You don't get points for beating on cripples. I feel bad enough leaving Ward with a victory over Kovalev since he ended the fight with a series of low blows but since I already gave the first fight to Kovalev it seemed wrong to take both wins away. +Just noticed I gave Pac credit for the 3rd Marquez fight. I've since subtracted it.
Good point. But he didn't beat all the elite guys he fought any more than Cotto did. His resume if in the same format I put the others would look like: Lomachenko, Lopez x2, 2, 7 Cotto's looks like:Margarito, 2, 4 Bradley would be: Marquez, 2, 7 But you are right. If we don't consider all of Salido's losses his victories should put him around number 9 for the decade so far.
Props for effort but all of the lists you've mentioned for the years apart from 2010 heavily lack in the mentioning the HOFs/ATG in all of those decades. Also, Floyd and Pac despite being successful post 2010, belong to the previous era as you said.
Looks like Pac won't be retiring anytime soon... It's admirable to see him still compete and showing to still have something left but it's better for him to not continue. Who knows, maybe he might continue to shock us once again if he fights a current elite fighter. He really is the only old ATG fighter left standing.
Bump I find it very astonishing how a guy like Pac is still able to compete at his age, and now he's on his way to face a top tier undefeated fighter. Much respect to him.
