His reflexes were not gone by the Raheem fight, he simply was not comfortable up at lw, in the much the same way Hatton was not comfortable at ww or Whitaker was not comfortable at lmw.

Morales wasnt shot in the 2nd fight, he was in noticeable decline & the last thing he needed was another life & death war, especially with a top-of-his-game Manny Pacquiao.

I agree that no other fighter could have did that to that version of Morales other than Pacquiao, not even JMM or MAB.

That fight took everything Morales had left to give as proven in his next 2 fights vs Pac (KO 3) & the terribly skill-less Diaz (L 12, tho I thought he edged Diaz, still doesnt mean your not all done:lol:)

Perhaps a bit of both to be fair.

Morales v Raheem was intended for 130 lbs as Erik only intended to move up to 135 after seeing out his promise - to give Pac a rematch - but he couldnt keep his weight down & Raheem happily agreed to fight Erik at 135, I hear also that EM had taken to living quite badly between fights, something he never done in his younger days... he reportedly sat drinking a corona beer when interviewed about the upcoming Raheem fight, thats ****ing wrong in my eyes. Lack of respect for your opponent + the demands of the sport at the elite level IMO.

Im not saying Morales was living bad or had trouble with weight for the 2nd Pac fight - Im sure he trained like a demon - but it shows that the man wasnt close to his prime anymore, either physically or mentally.

They were. What do you think the phrase "in decline" means? Watch the fight and then watch the Ayala and Hernandez fight.

I know that "in decline" is not the same as "shot", and my initial point that you queried was me saying that Morales being shot was a myth. I was correct.

    Was he?

The point here is that 'shot' and 'decline' must not be used interchangely.

Then we agree that he was progressively in decline. Now even then he was able to give Pac his toughest fights yet.

He was a little past prime. I don't think anyone denies that. I certainly never have. But he was still in a good enough condition to fight like a lion for several rounds. IMO, Erik would have beaten almost anyone else at that weight in the world at the time.

What is your understandings of 'prime' and 'peak' and which years do you think Erik was?

c'mon divac, schooling is overused too!

if that's the case, the one who schooled pac is no where near his achievement, popularity, glory, success.....................of pac! Something is not right?! If they took Pac to school then they are ones who should be on top right now not PAC!

coming from the horse's mouth - morales is the toughest. or do you think pac is not telling the truth?!

for the sake of arguement, JMM gave PAC a tough time, but the toughest remains Morales.

No offence mate, but I don't find this a very interesting topic to discuss so I'm going to decline. Erik was a little past-prime by the 2nd fight with Pac, but he was not shot, that's why I said him being shot was a myth. End of rather dull story.

Chi was unheard of & turned out to be a good fighter, with hindsight, that was a decent display by Morales.

As far as Espadas, that was Morales worst display in his prime yrs, everyone has off nights, he`s only human.

The points that are being made is that Morales was great before the Espadas fight & great after - even KOing Espadas in 3 rds - but he was never great after the Pac 2nd fight which shows it wasnt JUST a case of being beaten by the better man on the night & if you remember, he was pretty poor in the previous fight vs Raheem too.... coincidence ?
    I think not.... personally.

well when he fought Raheem he fought at a weight he had never fought before and against a fighter that a style of fight that Morales had never faced before.

and he was certainly beaten by the better man in the second fight with Pac,Morales still fought as well as he did in theyre first fight i think the big diference in that fight was Pacs improvement,he did a great job going to the body consistently since the start of the fight and he showed great improvements with the right hand.
also wearing reyes gloves instead of those pillow gloves Morales loved to wear also made a diference.
