This basically sums everything up nicely:

    From TheRingOnline:

The proposed fight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton, targeted for May 2 in Las Vegas, is officially off.

Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, said Pacquiao failed to meet a deadline imposed by Hatton to have the deal signed and both fighters have decided to go their separate ways. Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, Hatton’s promoter, said the same thing.

The parties initially agreed to a 50-50 split of the purse, several sources said, but Pacquiao later demanded a 60-40 split and then rejected a compromise offer.

“Pacquaio wouldn’t accept the terms,” Arum said. “(Hatton’s promoter) Richard (Schaefer) and (Ricky) Hatton imposed a deadline, I tried to get them to sign a contract, Manny declined, the deadline came and went, the fight was called off.

    “Simple as that.”

Arum, obviously frustrated throughout the negotiations, took a matter-of-fact approach on Wednesday.

“I don’t have any criticism for anybody,” he said. “Manny felt the deal should be one way, Hatton felt it should be another way. I tried to come up with what I thought was a good compromise and it was rejected.

“It left us without a fight, but there’s no one to blame here. … I think most of Manny’s people wanted him to accept the compromise. He decided not to. It’s his life, his career.

Next up for the Pacman might be a date with Mayweather Jr., pending he actually does go ahead and unretire. From all accounts this fight will bring in less revenue and sell less ppv's than the Hatton fight would have, and it's a more difficult matchup for Manny.

Another stumbling block to this one is the fact that there is no conceivable way Mayweather accepts anything less than a split that somehow favors him, even if its 51-49. No way is he gonna accept the demands Pacquaio tried to impose on Hatton.

If that doesn't occur, maybe a name from 135 will move up to 140 to meet Pacquiao. The winner of Diaz/Marquez comes to mind, or maybe Nate Campbell.

    Next For Hatton

Hatton has already stated he would like to fight Mayweather Jr. again. Look for him to explore that option first. There have also been mentions of Oscar De La Hoya, if he chooses to fight on. This fight has been rumored for Wimbley Stadium, and Hatton's promoter is already telling people he can sell 80,000 tickets to this fight. If that is the case and De La Hoya signs on, this just could be the next biggest fight in boxing.

If either of those don't work out, look for Hatton to also try his hand at the winner of Marquez/Diaz.

    Final Thoughts

This is truly a sad day for boxing. As if we needed any indication of why MMA is kicking boxing's butt all over the place, we get the clearest indication why. I love Manny Pacquiao and enjoy watching him fight, but his actions in this situation are simply deplorable to fight fans.

Forgive me for thinking that the best should fight the best. Forgive me for thinking that a 50/50 split was fair considering Pacman is considered the pound for pound best fighter, yet Hatton was expected to drive the sales for this event.

Forgive me for thinking that two great warriors would want to enhance their legacies and put on a great show for the fans and not haggle over a few dollars when they would both make millions for this fight.

Forgive me for one second for not remembering that this was the sport of Boxing, where selfish fighters like Manny Pacquiao would cut off his nose to spite his face. Is there another explanation for posturing out of the biggest payday out there when there isn't a bigger payday awaiting you?

He said "I think"...thinking doesnt make it fact...if you can present to me some hard facts, then I will gracefully concede my oringal point about the weight drainage NOT effecting Oscar's performance.

the fight is off. peole are acting like this is the death of boxing, get over it theres other fights. the fight could have been great but was not meant to be. and its both parties fault for not coming up with a compromise

Except that's not true, is it? He's faced HOF fighters on the down slide and b listers in between. He hasn't faced ONE elite fighter still in his prime, and when it came down to facing Hatton, who may not quite be elite but certainly is still in good form, he found a way out of the fight.
