Trainer Freddie Roach never wanted Manny Pacquiao to train in Baguio City. He wanted his fighter to train at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California. He eventually gave in. Roach openly admits to the Philippine Daily Inquirer that he already sees trouble with the way the camp is run - and he is not happy about it. Pacquiao is preparing for the toughest fight of his career when he challenges Miguel Cotto for the WBO welterweight title on November 14. Roach doesn't like Pacquiao's early morning runs with military cadets. More so than that, he really doesn't like Pacquiao's basketball games in the evening. He says the runs and basketball games are not part of Pacquiao's training regimen. No more fun and games. Im a little disappointed at the way camp has been running. Running with the cadets was good and all, but were preparing for a fight here, said Roach. He cant play basketball, run and train at the same time. He could [play basketball] on Sundays, but not on training days. Training for the fight is hard work and hes going to miss more days of running if he continues playing basketball. If I have to take out the rim or pop the basketballs, Ill do it.
Roach should have lowered the boom on manny from the get-go.....he can either go be president of the phillippines or he can train his ass of......roach was too kind on pacquiao's entourage aka his "advisors"....those guys need to take a hike..... manny will prove his greatness, by putting all this crap behind him, and will take care of business or cotto will crush a ill-prepared pacquiao....we will find out...
If its not broke, dont **** with it. It seems either Manny`s ego has grown so much that he thinks he can **** about in training & still win or Roach is trying to lure team Cotto into a false sense of security & Pac at his best will show up... thats my view.
I think its a little bit both actually...I do think roach is telling the truth about that he is not happy with certain aspects of the camp.....but I think he is hyping it a bit to make it seem like their is major problems, when in fact manny is training just fine physically speaking..
Roach shud threaten to walk if pacquiao doesn't listen to him that way pac will learn that roach is da boss.
Its weird. Last week in a Phillipino newspaper that Roach said Pac has never looked better and is on schedule. Unless these reports have surfaced over the last several days. At the same time, I read an article on Maxboxing this week saying Manny is already close to fighting shape and is looking good. Conflicting reports to say the least.
Sounds like Pac is purposely trying to throw this fight so he can avoid Mayweather.. Its a pretty smart plan actually..
Roach again... I'm not sure what to believe. Hope he wins but no excuses, not training is never a valid excuse. :deal
