In the race to find a new opponent to face P4P king Manny Pacquiao- ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley is the front runner. Rumours are circulating that Bob Arum is recruiting the 39 year old for a fight next year, possibly in May.

Mosley (46-6-1) was a great fighter once, a future ‘Hall of Famer’, but he is past it now. This would be a disappointing matchup for boxing fans and yet another display of Arum milking his prize assets, by matching them with weaker opposition. It is a problem that is plaguing boxing and leaves up and coming fighters in the shadows of the ‘big named’ stars. My point is emphasised by the man himself, Arum says, “The casual sports fan knows Mosley. He’s fought (Oscar) De La Hoya twice and Mayweather. He’s a recognisable name. No matter how great a fighter he may be, those people have no idea who Juan Manuel Marquez is.” This is a prime example of promoters valuing PPV sales over fight value.

No disrespect to Mosley, but after a 12 round schooling from Floyd Mayweather and a dull draw with Sergio Mora, does he really think he is fit to share a ring with Pacquiao?
Juan Manuel Marquez has earned his third blockbuster clash with Manny, since his defeat to ‘Money’ Mayweather he has notched up two great wins. There are concerns over what weight the pair would meet at, but it is a makeable and marketable fight. Would ‘Pac-Man’ beat the Mexican again? Probably. Would the fight be more competitive than one with Shane Mosley? Definitely.

    Exactly!

Arum is trying to manipulate the general public, I don't know why us fans stand for it. Pacquiao would demolish Mosley with them ruthless 8 punch combos, worse than Mayweather did !!

Settle for Berto, Bradley or JMM.

Granted, they won't make as much money (other than JMM), but targeting Mosley will just harm Pacquiao's legacy. Those that are already accusing him of exploiting past-prime fighters, will have even more ammo.

You're a great example of how Arum makes money from these fights.

Even Manny's manager stated the second negotiation didn't work out as neither Manny or Mayweather would accept the other sides offer on drug testing. So they went there seperate ways.

How to sell an inferior alternative to fans?

Lie your ass off about "Manny agreeing to all demands" and having a "done deal" with mayweather"

Arum can flog Pacquiao to anyone he wants as long as he convinces low intelligence, casual boxing fans, that he's trying to get Mayweather

The problem is, unlike ALL Pacquiao opponents, since Marquez beat him up, Shane Mosely can hit people back when they're coming at him.

Shane nearly ended Floyd's career with 2 shots. Floyd being a very hard guy to land shots on.

Manny's very very easy to hit. Clottey landed bombs on him, on the counter, all night

If Mosely lands those shots, he'll stop him

Man, you got to understand, style make fights.

Shane's a bigger puncher than Pacquiao, just as fast, way more accurate, and has spent a career beating up aggresive brawlers.

He's always stunk it up with slick guys. Guys who are too scared to trade with him. 15 years ago, he was struggling with runners.

If he goes in with Manny, he'll get what he wants. A 7-8 round war.

And seriously, if you go in wanting to trade with Mosely, you've got a great shot of losing

Fit to share a ring with Pacquiao?

As I said guys, you're in this comfortable little, dream world, where you ignore anything you don't like.

Hatton, Oscar, Cotto, Margarito, Diaz didn't deserve fights with a PFP number 1. They'd all been beaten up by Mayweather, or significantly worse fighters than Mayweather.

Mayweather dealing with a guy, for you, isn't a viable argument for a fighter.

Guys Mayweather beats easily, don't automatically translate to a brawler like Pacquiao. Juan Marquez being the obvious example.

All this is, is a great example of how good promoters are.

Manny gets exposed by a skilled, pure fighter. Nobody thinks he's that great.

What do you do? Just match him up with perfectly suited brawlers, to make him look better

This is a **** fight but Arum won't care. He'll still make the fight and then look for a catchweight at 145 or something stupid like that.

Shane would land that level of shot on Pacquiao, every round, for as long as he's in there.
