Pacquiao as an ambassador for his country. Chavez was huge for boxing but we don't know what effect Pacquiao will have on future Philipino boxers. Chavez's impact on boxing is happening now because of the surge of fighters who were inspired by him, so in 15-20 years, we should see a similar surge of Philipino's who got into the sport just because of Pacquiao.

There's no doubt though, that Pacquiao has had a bigger impact on his home nation though, just because of his politics.

absolutely pacquiao coz everytime he has a fight the gov't forces and the communist rebels agreed unofficial ceasefire and during the duration of the fight there's a zero crime rate and no traffic, police and criminals are watchin the fight. everybodies watchin it in the philippines.almost all the young people want to be manny.

it's hard...cause manny is ****en huge over there
and with chavez, you already had mexican greats that opened up the door for mexican boxers, but chavez not only opened them up more, bull dozed thru, even though mexico already had it's share of great fighters, rivalries etc etc.........not only that, but chavez really brought a lot of attention to the lower weights while tyson was at his prime, and we all know how hard that is/was

There are already lots of phillipines trying to be like Pac, but they're failing, because they dont realize that Pac is a fake legend that cheated his way to the top using steroids, PED's, fighting Old has-beens Mexican greats, and FIXED FIGHTS.
Alot of these wanna-be pacmans are losing and being KO'd, cause they were mislead by Pacman's "success".

    as far as Impact.

Chavez has had a more impact.

Chavez holds the record for selling out an outdoor stadium.
Chavez sold-out my stadium, Estadio Azteca, with over 130,000 people.

as far as the crime rate going down, when a fighter fight, it happens anywhere.

When Carlos Hernandez fought, crime rate was down in El Salvador.

That's a really good point. I think Pacquiao is bigger for his home nation but Chavez made the sub-147lbs weight divisions interesting. He really did make people realise how good boxing was in the lower divisions, more than anyone before or after him. Guys like Barrera, Hamed, Morales and even Pacquiao himself, wouldn't have become the stars they did, without JCChavez making people aware of the lower weight divisions. He deserves a lot of respect for that.
