i'm not talking about who wins. It's about who has the greater career, the greater legacy?

I think Duran ranks higher, his win over SRL is better than any single win Pacquiao has and that edges it for me between these two ATG's.

Its difficult. You have got Duran who is arguably goat light weight beating dejesus x2, buchanan, . Has the best win ever arguably in montreal srl. Came close with Hagler at middleweight. Beat up cuevas, palomino, moore and barkley at 160.
But there is also the shitload of losses and no mas.

Pac went from 112 to 150. 8 divisions and beat barrera x2, marquez x2 (arguably), morales x2, bradley x2, ledwaba, hatton, cotto, margarito, dlh and thurman at age 40/41. Won belts in 4 decadea, only 8 division champ.

Its close imo. Both are amazing.

Pacquiao is my favorite fighter and is one of the greatest ever. But I do not think he's greater than Duran. It's even difficult to say he's close. I do not think any version of Pacquiao could compete with SRL, let alone beat. Duran is next level. Probably the greatest fighter of the Television era.

If Duran had never fought or beaten SRL then I'd say that Pac might have an argument. But considering Duran beat SRL it's just not even a debate. It's not close.

I agree but is it a fair comparison? Duran at 147 is like Pac at 130 or 135 imo.
Plus not many boxers beat srl at 147.

I do feel Pac and Duran were cut from the same cloth in going trough the weights like Sam Langford and Armstrong.

Pacquiao started at 112, but naturally he was a 126 pounder when fully grown. Duran was also small as a teenager.

Durán without a doubt. As much as I really support my fellow countryman Pacquiao the answer is most definitely Roberto Duran. His victory over Leonard eclipses all of Pac’s greatest wins.

Duran is Top 10 ATG while Pac is Top 15.

Agreed, no way Pacquiao could do what Duran did in the first SRL fight. But then Pacquiao was naturally much smaller than Duran. Duran was 27 when he moved up to Welterweight, Pac at the same age was still a Super Featherweight, 3 divisions below Duran at the same age. What Pac did at Welter would be like Duran doing the same at Super middle, which is why what Pac did was so crazy and probably won't be repeated.

While I think Duran clearly ranks higher I don't think there's a massive gap between them in terms of ATG ranking. Duran is clearly top 10 ATG but Pac at worst for me is top 20 and you could argue he ranks even higher than that.

Duran was 72-1 when he suffered his second loss to SRL but he subsequently went 7-5 in his next 12 fights. That being said, some of the names who bested him in his first 7 losses were prime versions of legends and greats like SRL, Hagler, Hearns, Benitez and he even lost to and beat Jesus and they were against bigger opponents at weight classes outside his optimum one

He did lose when he stepped up to Brit Level against Kirkland Laing though

And one of those other 7 losses was against Hagler's half-brother Robbie Simms which he arguably won albeit I think I edged it to Simms when I watched it

Either way it was a great fight and Duran bashed career MW Simms up pretty good

Hearns was an unfair size mismatch given Hearns' freakish dimensions and Duran gave a prime Hagler a very good run for his money and beat a prime SRL. He fought all those legends in their country too and he fought a prime Hagler and Hearns in back to back fights
