There is already a thread on who you think will win, so leave those answers for that thread! I have been excited about this fight even before it was signed, and can't wait for it to start. Since this fight is so hyped what is and what will be the significance of this fight 10-20+ years down the road? Will this fight be remembered with epic battles like SRL-Duran, Arguello-Pryor? or will it go down with less remembered fights like Lopez-Molina? What fighter stands to gain or lose the most in terms of legacy depending upon the outcome????
if its a great fight which it has the potential too it will be rememebered. i dfont think this fight has been hyped as much as Mayweather Hatton it just had a buzz around it, everyone was speaking about it. This fight theres not the same buzz. I'm not sure how important it is if Manny wins it is important if he loses less so IMO. Hatton will lose the most if he loses and Pacman will gain the most if he wins. theres one thing that bothers me is that Pac is reckless with the head and and Hatton cuts easy so it could be an accidental headclash could stop the fight
I think that with the build up for this fight, the fact that Pac is a consensus P4P#1, and Hatton seems to be the crop of the current 140lb weight division that the stage is set for a historical fight in the years to come. Although much of that could depend on how exciting or challenging the fight is. On the other side I believe Pac stands to gain more and lose less with either outcome. If Pac is victorious in a KO or runaway decision- He beat the best 140lb'r in the world. Also a guy who may not be at his prime but is close enough that he is still fighting at a very high level. All the while doing this several lb's above his best fighting weight. If Pac wins a close decision...the above still holds largely true, but his warrior status is probably elevated in the minds of many, and not necesarily wrongfully. If Pac loses, he will still be considered by many P4P #1, as he was moving up out of his natural weight (and like Hatton is probably out of his prime, but still fighting at a high level) and unless Hatton demolishes him I don't believe a loss will hurt his standing all that much..especially as he has some nice legacy wins on his resume already (even if some question a couple of decisions). I think he will be credited with great heart for daring to move up and accept a larger challenge than his body could make. If Hatton wins via KO or huge pts win...I don't see how in most minds (not that I agree) this will be justified as a legitimate great win resume wise. Many will say now his 2 best wins are an over the hill Tszyu and a blown up super feather weight (Kinda the way many diminish B-Hop's wins over DLH and Trinidad..or even Pryor's win over Arguello). If Hatton wins a close decision, many will say he was given to a hard a time, by a guy that was to small to be fighting at that weight, and had he fought higher level comp at his own weight he would not do so well. Should Hatton lose, it proves to many that he was a masterful hype job (again not that I agree), with a padded record, who could not even beat a naturally smaller opponent. If we have an exciting fight it has the possibility of being remembered for years to come...if it is a dud or 1 sided...probably not. Even with 3-5 exciting rds. I don't believe this will ever achieve Hagler-Hearns like status. The best chance is for a long, exciting fight possibly to remembered along the lines of an Arguello-Pryor type fight. Some may think that an exageration, but Hatton is the cream of 140 (similar to Pryor) while Pac is P4P#1 (a status I am not sure Arguello earned???). While I think Pryor and arguello were better than either guy in this fight, I could see it talked about in 20 years as a great war for the ages...in a day where many of the best fights are not being made...this onw fits the bill!
i agree with everything there but Pryor-Arguello is one of my favourite fights ever it is an ATG along with Hagler Hearns IMO if this fight lives up to taht it will go down as a ATG classic but even if Pac wins he only going to be P4P 1 until Mayweather returns IMO.
I am having trouble getting geared up for this fight. I think Hatton is past his prime, and is a bit over rated despite some lofty credentials. Word is Ricky outside the ring life style, which is heavy on drinking, and food has made him comfortable and fat. I think Hatton has reached a point where he's happy with his fame and laurels in boxing and is no longer passionate about the processing of getting into shape for a fight. He'll drop the weight, but if your walk around weight is 170, you should not be fighting in the lower weights. This is not a knock. Hatton was for years a real grinder type. Pacquaio to me is still in his prime, and very spartan in his attitude on boxing. I think this one could be over in rounds 4-7. Much depends on Hatton's quick, but under developed footwork and game plan. If Hatton slugs, he going to lose unless Manny can't take a body shot.
I don't know about that. The only way for Hatton to win is to slug with the guy. If he stands on the outside and just tries boxing the guy he'll get peppered. That southpaw style will see lots of straight shots landing thru that defense. Hatton cannot afford to fight like DLH and be content to stand on the outside and get outboxed. and turned. He doesn't have the best skin and can get busted up from those kinds of punches and he's no defensive whiz in there. To me, Hatoon has to eat shots on the outside but not let that deter him 1 iota and close the gap and continue punching. Make it a physical fight and 1 thing Hatton does have at 149 is conditioning. And turn it into an absorbtion type fight for Manny as well. If Hatton was a headhunter, I'd really love the Pacquiao chances. But that sustained body attack can really pay dividends in this. And ithose left hooks to the body are going to be tough to absorb for 12 rounds. At the end of the day, I think it's a classic monday morning quarterback type fight. The winner will have things his way, whomever wins. Nice matchup and the loser is going to probably get stopped and will have to undergo a rebuilding job. That alone makes it a risky bout and it's nice to see risky bouts for a change.
Hatton wins this. He closes the range extremely quickly. He managed to manouver Floyd to the ropes in the early going, and if firm but fair hadn't stopped the action immediately every time he would have made a better fight that night ( still lost ). Firm but fair is not the ref tonight, and i expect to see Ricky push Pac onto the ropes and surprise the hell out of him with his strength and savvy. Watch him step around Pac hooking to the head and body. Ricky before the 6th.
A peak Hatton, at this weight, wins. I just think Hatton is past his best, especially after the Mayweather KO, it just wasn't exposed by his two subsequent opponents. I reckon Pac wins it mid to late. The only worry for Pac is if he throws too many punches and gets involved in a brawl. That gives Hatton a better chance. Pac needs to be controlled to win.
Maybe, i disagree but thats your opinion. But he also got Tszyu, Castillo etc etc etcagainst the ropes early, everyone he has fought has spent a significant amount of time pushed back against the ropes. I have never seen Pac fight well off the ropes and it will take away his in and out style.
im not saying that Hatton isnt good at cutting off the ring and getting people onto the ropes but i feeel that Mayweather chose to go on the ropes in that fight but i see you have backed it up with other examples so you know your stuff and your right he did get them guys
