**** yes he's comparable. We're watching history in the making and ten years from now Pac will be looked upon as a top 5 fighter. *****s need to stop hating and get on the bandwagon.

If he goes on to beat Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, Mosley, and clean the welterweight division up than he will be the greatest ever!

After Pacquiao beat them: Pacquiao is on PEDS!

They are both top 25 ATG's. Both great weight jumpers. On those grounds, yes.

Armstrong is a long time general consensus top five, always top ten, fighter of all time. On those grounds, no.

However, it is a whole lot harder to judge ones' career while they are still active, especially if still at a high level. Pacquiao can do many things to both raise and lower his legacy and placement on the mythical "ATG list," or at least my view of that list. Then perception of the entirety of their career and how the careers of those they beat progressed plays somewhat of a role. Impossible to say, but I think the obvious answer would be: yes and no depending on what the comparison is about or the claim.

I was actually expecting a kneejerk response when I clicked on the thread but this came off as pretty impartial and I agree

I cannot disagree with this really. I am a fan of Pacs but I rate what Armstrong did higher (one champ and less division with big weight gaps between). Pacs accomplishments is as close as you can get in the modern era. Armstrong top 5 ATG, Pac top 20-25 i suspect when everything is said and done.

Pac is a modernday version of armstrong, winning titles from flyweight to welter is insane.

the difference is that Armstrong was champion when there was only one champion per division and also ppl overrate Pacquia in a way that they ignore that Mayweather and him started of at 106 when they were 16 (mayweather at amateur) and both went on to win the lmw title so they have both done the same

Great post. There needs to be a bit of breathing space after Pacquiao's career is over to put his achievements in context. Purely hypothetically, a decisive win over Mayweather or a decisive loss to Marquez could have a significant impact on how his achievements are viewed. The former would secure him as the greatest fighter of his era, whereas with the latter he would essentially have lost the overall series against a similar sized comtemporary whose prime overlapped, which few if any top 10 ATGs have done.
