***** this was before Pac agreed to drug testing. Floyd has to give a little too. Pacquiao is just as big of a draw as Mayweather.

Armstrong was great in his era, but anyone who's seen those ol grainy clips of Armstrong winging looping punches with his head down know that any elite boxer in the modern day would wipe the floor with him. This is not me hating on Armstrong, rather it is all about years and years pf pragmatic knowledge and know-how compounding from the time Hammerin Hank fought to the present. It really is a labor in futility fantasizing about h2h matchups with ol' timers...just can't be done. It's more apt to ask, who was "greater" among the 2 than asking who would win...even at that it's all relative as back then you can pad your record with wins with what amounts to be sparring partners today.

    This.

Although in truth, I think a comparison between McLarnin and Pac is more appropriate, given the manner in which their careers unfolded.

Marquez is #1 at the moment, he beat the #1 2 divisions above his won weight, lost to My in his 1st fight 2 divisions above 135 where he only had two previous fights, but May would never make a move like that one, move up 2 weight divisions to fight Sergio at 160, let alone fight the 2 top 5 fighters in the world, not even Pac did it when he moved up to fight De La Hoya, who wasn't ranked top 10 at welter.

If Armstrong had as many divisions, like super welter and super lightweight, plus so many belts to choose from, imagine that he could have done. Pac has not even fought Floyd, I blame both for that problem.

Biggest problem in matchup is style of times, Armstrong fouled often, throwing lots of punches below belt in era when only a shot directly to balls would be called on a guy. H ewould not get away with that today.

Armstrong holding featherweight, lightweight, and welter at same time, with only 8 divisions and no split belts, was an accomplishment no one has ever matched. On that Pac does not compare.

You know that Armstrong fought three times as many fights as Pac, right? A few more losses are bound to occur during that time, y'know.

I like the fact that Armstrong is the OG perpetual motion device and SRL has that same opinion of Pac.

When I see Floyd, his style looks strangely simliar to Burley.

No one can deny that these fighters are great. Well, except for butthurt haters

People are confusing popularity with greatness. Pacquio is one of few stars in boxing now--him, floyd, Klitschko's----Armstrong had stars in several divisions to compete with for popularity.
