The point of the catchweight is to take away some of the bigger mans advantage. If you are not confident and feel the need to take away a bigger mans advantage in his weight class, simply don't fight him in that weight class. This whole "meet in the middle" or "Pac is fighting at his highest weight" is horse**** because nobody is forcing him to take this fight. There are better fights for him at 140 and 147 anyway. He is taking this fight for selfish "legacy" purposes and the 8th title. He should allow Margo to fight within the weight range specified in that class.

For the record, I think Pac smokes him at 154 anyway. Margo look slower than molasses in his last fight. This catchweight just allows room for people to question the validity of the whole thing.

Why would Tony not be allowed to come in at the JMW limit for a JMW fight, if Manny wants to come in at 151 no problem, but if I'm fighting for JMW belt I should be able to come in at JMW limit bottom line.

That's correct. Like I said, it's not against any existing rules. My point is that it *should* be because you're imposing an artificial weight limit, which violates the sovereignty of the council's own weight limits. What's the point of saying a title is for anybody up to 154lbs if another fighter can say, "actually, it's going to be for anybody up to 150lbs now".

The rule should be simple -"The Council shall decline the sanctioning of any contracts between boxers that include a weight clause"

Sure it's happened before. That's why I said 99% and not 100%. Surely you're not attempting to say that most, many, or even a decent number of champions won their titles at catchweights, are you?

Nobody is forcing Margo to accept the catchweight of 151 and i i havent seen any evidence that he would be better at 154 than he will be at 151 if anything he would be a bit bigger than what he already is and even slower(if thats possible)than he already is,but anyway i dont give any importance to that 8 division champion stuff cause titles nowadays are pretty much meaningless.i would rather see them fight at 147 in a weight that i think benefits both fighters than seeing them fight at 151 or 154 for a meaningless title.

This should be for the catchweight diamond belt.

True, nobody is forcing Margo to accept, but he has literally zero leverage in any negotiation with anyone. Pac could make him fight with his **** out and really, what else can he do? Fight another bum for 250k?

Arum is throwing him a bone and allowing him to take a beating for probably 2 million dollars and then he can disappear into oblivion.

If you think about it. 151 lbs is more to Margarito's advantage. At 154, he will be slow.

After all, Garcia (Margo's trainer) said Margo already hit 154 lbs 2 weeks before his last fight....

Why wouldn't he? Because he agreed wih the weight limit obviously. If that was a problem, it would have been addressed. The weight limit is NOT what title fights MUST be at. Floyd didn't weight in at 147 for all his WW title fights (if I recall). Neither did Cotto.

You guys are making a huge fuss out of nothing. This has happened before, it will happen again. Boxing and it's titles are NOT the same as they were 15 years ago. Things have changed.

I don't get it. He's too small to make the weight for 147, yet he's alright to fight at a catchweight of 151? If he's okay to make 151, why the **** didn't he come in at 147 in the welterweight fights?

It's honestly such bull****. Does he have a superstition about weighing in correctly?

No, that's not what I was saying. There is only ONE champ per division. The Pac/Margarito winner is NOT the World Champ at JrMW. To me, it's just another fight. Whow cares if there is a belt on the line. We, as fans, need to be able to recognize that this is NOT for the Ring Belt, or World JrMW title. The title means nothing in the long run because Pac (If wins) will NOT be defending it.

Roach is the guy behind this catchweight stuff not Pac i dont see Pac giving a **** if Cotto for example weighed in at 147 instead of 145.

The problem is that from a historical perspective, it does count because the record books tend not to go into all of the "but"s with things. It will simply say that Pacquiao won titles in eight divisions - more than anybody else in history. That's what it will say. It won't say, "but it was the non-linear title that was vacant at a catchweight by an organization that people on eastsideboxing don't like". It will say that Pacquiao won titles in eight divisions - something nobody, not even the likes of Armstrong, has ever done before.

To you and me and to Ring magazine, sure we recognize one champ per division. But the fact is there are multiple champions per division because there are multiple boxing organizations, and no one organization dominates any weight division. In fact, usually there are 2-3 "legit" organizations per weight class, meaning there are 2-3 "legit" champions. Nothing in the history books would separate Pacquiao being the champion at 154 from anybody else holding titles there, for better or worse.

The weight divisions come with a weight RANGE. The weight divisions are accepted by ALL entitties in boxing. There is NO WAY they can enforce such a rule when the weight class is defined by the range. It's as simple as that.

If BOTH sides agree, then there's nothing to ***** about. Again, as simple as that.
