I agree with that bit, we do enjoy our big fights, but we half don't b*tch about stupid things lol. You we should all be screaming at both fighters, not one or the other.

When it's all said & done, If & when this fight happens.
It will be the let down of all-time.

Mayweather will make it look easy.
    People will feel robbed.

Yeah you're right being a 6 time champion in 5 weight divisions clearly shows he cherrypicked all of his fights. Also beating many p4p top 10's when he fought them furthermore supports your argument.

I don't mind haters, but at least get your ****ing facts right you buck nosed ******.

I agree that boxing doesn't need to be saved, however in the North America (I'm Canadian) the sport could use a pick up.

The they had a trilogy it might help.

NO! Not if this Mayweather/GBP bull**** continue's, there's ****-all to negotiate in the eyes of Mr Joe Public considering the enormous fortune that all parties will cream off from the PPv sales.

If the Mayweather clan & more so GBP continue down this bull**** road then expect to see boxing take a massive hit with regards too the man on the street forking out his hard pressed $$$$$ in future. I'am now not fussed about the fight as too me it's now tainted beyond redemption & all parties here are to blame but none so more as the Mayweather clan, How the **** can you expect more of the 50/50 when you are going to reep $40MILLION +

A fight won't "save" boxing but in order for boxing to grow the overall structure needs to change.

    1. Get back on network TV. Having most boxing on HBO/SHO hurts the sport so much. The possible fan base is extremely limited when it's on a premium channel. No casual fan is gonna buy HBO/SHO to watch boxing while they would flip on ESPN/ABC/etc.

    2. Hold more fights throughout the week, not just Saturday night. Saturday night is a night when a lot of people go out and do stuff. Unless it's a big time fight people aren't gonna plan their night around a fight.

    3. Fix the PPV model. 55 for a PPV is robbery especially when the undercard is ****. I only do it because I love the sport, if I didn't I wouldn't want to do it. Perfect example, JMM/Diaz on PPV. Money grab by HBO.

There is a lot of good boxing out there right now, people just don't know about it. People can't se these fighters, watch consistently, and grow with these fighters. For people to be fans of something they have to be exposed to it consistently (which is why one fight will do nothing).

I notion that boxing is dieing tends to elicit an eye rolling response from me. I will acknowledge however that after Pac-May eventually happens the notion becomes far more legitimate.

Boxing, like any sport, has had it's shares of highs and lows through out it's history. I agree w/ a lot of posters that say boxing doesn't need to be saved. It's not a dying sport. Just ask yourself, how long has boxing been in existence? Heroes, villains and fans come and go but the sport will live forever, IMO.

This is what's up, right here. Lack of exposure kills the sport more than anything else.

I agree & i think we all agree that what has happended is the natural evolution on PPV now being monopolysed by 2 mega companies that offer riches beyond avarice to the chosen/lucky few but it's all based on the arrogant & nieve assumption that the homeboy cash cow can be milked indefinetly.

There's always a tipping point when a collapse will happen & at $55 you may be getting near to the day when the wife sez **** that, the kids need new shoe's & yer on short time ect & $$$$ = VALUE? I don't think so.

Back in the 80's you had Hagler/Hearns on a MONDAY Night & Leonard/Hearns on a THURSDAY & Leonard/Duran on a FRIDAY & you had to pray that a closed circuit venue was near you & the fight or highlights would be shown the following week on free TV & as you said until it gets back into the puplic domain you'll slowly see it's demise.

In the UK boxing has all but disappeared from the public consciousness as we know have no boxing on free/Terrestrial TV & it's all on satellite/cable & even now that is collapsing + very few newspapers cover boxing in any depth, maybe 5 lines giving a result

As an example we can't even get to watch or even here about CARL FROCH or anything about the Super 6 tourny, ****in madness as not one UK tv channel has made any attempt to buy it up. It's a lesbian controlled PC world over here & boxing is viewed as anti-social:twisted:

Boxing doesn't work as well on network TV because of advertising. You have no way of knowing how many ads you're gonna get in a boxing match. The main event which is when everyone starts to tune in could end in 1 round. Its one of those things where networks like HBO and showtime don't care cause there's no advertisement anyways, its all about subscriptions.

I think boxing is doing very well and has a good model. The ESPN/Showtime/HBO/PPV model works. What ****s boxing up is the sanctioning bodies. These ****ing sanctioning bodies make it so the sport is difficult to follow. Who is the champion? Why is this fight meaningful? What am I really paying for? Who is really the best?

boxing needs ONE major league that is recognized as such, like every other sport. That will help it alot.

    Agreed.

They should make it one belt, one world title, that would make it a hell of lot better. There should only be one world champ in each weight division, that way rankings really mean something.

exactly, the rankings are meaningless. Look at the top10 from one sanctioning body to the next, its bull****.

As a casual basketball fan, the first thing I look up when I wanna get up to date with the sport is the NBA standings. In boxing, you gotta look at the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO standings and it doesn't mean anything.

Or you can look at the ring magazine standings but then you'd think "Then why the hell is Sosnowsky fighting for the heavyweight world title?"
