I know that 80% of threads in the general are on this, but i'm wanting to know what the classic poster's take on this fight is. If it happened this year at 147lbs, who would you favour and why? And another question, if it were to happen, which fight would it be the biggest since? Me personally, i have absolutely no idea how this fight would go. I always have that horrible feeling before a Mayweather fight that hes surely going to sneak it or dominate on points, otherwise he wouldnt have taken the fight. But with Pacquiao i get a different feeling, that he's surely going to dick slap the critics once more and pull it off. I imagine posters being annoyed when reading the title of this thread alone, but this fight would definatley be historically significant as these two guys are clearly a level above everyone else in the world right now P4P.
I think if it happens (although I now doubt it will) that Manny would stop Floyd late, mainly on work rate and forcing him to go somewhere he doesn't want to be. In manny floyd would be facing the only guy at or around his weight who would be quicker than he is and he's also never been totally comfortable with southpaws.
I still have questions as to how Manny P will handle a solid technician at welter. Hes been matched at the higer weights quite cleverly. I also dont know if the Money man is capable of handleing a fire fight since hes been sleeping in silk pajamas for so long. Both upcoming fights should provide some better insight as Clottey will probably be the toughest defensive target Manny has faced at welter, and Mosley will probably present the best offensive force Mayweather has faced at the weight. At this point I still lean towards the technician Mayweather.
If they both win their forthcoming matches, I think we'll find out the answer before the year's out. The pressure on the sport is simply too great for this one to not come off.
Pacquiao easily. Without his edge in foot-speed, Mayweather gets closed down rapidly and his predictable defence gets peppered by Pacquiao's speed, angles and power.
I will only further analyze it if the fight is going to happen. My first instincts after Cotto were Pac SD. I don't believe Mayweather just picks him off to an easy decision.
In my opinion Mayweather will win. But Mayweather hasn't fought a guy with this level of dynamism in his attack probably ever. That's where the question mark is for me, and hence the excitement if this ****in fight could just come off for us all. Mayweather is really good at adapting mid fight though, people forget about that because it's been so long since he's had to do it, but his boxing brain is superb in my opinion. If you find a ***** in his armour and exploit it, he'll change up, then you have to find a ***** in his new armour he's sporting. Pacquiao just might not be able to do it. But like i say about the dynamism of Pacquiao, he's so explosive, if he hurts Floyd, and i suspect he can, then he could throw in all kinds of rapid fire shots and then we have an upset. Just hope this gay negotiating bull**** doesn't ruin it. Gimme a hell yeah for the purists
Mayweather has to be the favorite, but Pacquiao has a lot of tools that can give him trouble. And there is always the chance of Pac stealing close rounds based on aggression and workrate.
I think that I'd favor Mayweather by stoppage. Manny's dynamism (thanks teeto) and aggression will give Floyd many opportunities that will result in Floyd picking up points and scoring regularly. Floyd unlike De la Hoya, Diaz and Cotto is not a come forward fighter nor does he press the action. He is comfortable waiting and taking as little risk as possible in order to win the round. Now Manny is a dynamic fighter and he will likely press Floyd enough to open up more to stay in the fight but I think Floyd's ability to adjust mid-fight if Pac tries to take him out of his game is second to none. Floyd has more ways to win this fight than Manny does.
Put your money on Mayweather, not just because hes the better boxer but because Pacquaio can't beat a top fighter with a good right hand and has had nightmares with them. Past it Morales and Marquez owned him with right hands. All the rest of those guys couldnt throw a right for **** - Hatton, Delahoya, Cotto, MAB, Diaz. Pacman thrives on those left hooker types That aside Pacman has a sub par defense that will be picked apart and is somewhat predictable in what he does. Thats a recipe for getting picked apart by a skilled defensive counter puncher **** I wouldnt be that suprised if Clottey shocks the world
I still can't make my mind up about this. One day I think Mayweather will just be too slick and be able to adapt to Pac, other days I wonder if Mayweather still has what it takes to keep away from Pac for 12 rounds. I really have no idea, maybe the Clottey/Mosley fights will help. If I had to choose it would maybe be Mayweather UD, but **** knows.
