    Mosley, DeLaHoya, Morales, and Barrera.

First of all sorry for yet another thread about Manny Pacquiao.

Second I am a big Pacquiao fan and I would like to discuss this topic seriously and honestly.

Pac went 6-1 (4) vs. these great fighters but were any of them great when he faced them?

Morales was the only one that beat him and I also feel that he was the one who was most near his prime. I think Morales got in great shape and really came to win in their first fight. I beleive that Pac got better after this fight. I also feel that Morales went downhill after this fight. Their 2nd and 3rd fights do not represent what a prime vs. prime meeting would like like between these 2 men. So, a slightly better Morales than was the case in their first fight vs. a Pacquiao much like the one who beat Morales for the 2nd time. Who wins?

Or... who wins if Morales had at least been in his prime during any of their fights? Well, in their first fight Morales did win so I'd say... yes, a prime Morales beats Pacquiao in their first fight. What about a prime Morales in their 2nd and 3rd fights? It's a toss up IMO but I do feel that Pac has continued to get better even after those fights.

Barrera was still a good fighter when he fought Pac the first time but past his best days. Who wins had it been a prime Barrera in either one of their fights. I think pac beats a prime Barrera at 122, 126, and so on.

DeLaHoya and Mosley? So far I'm not convinced that he could have beat these guys in their primes... I hope one day he changes my mind though.

    thoughts?

I agree with your assessment. I give prime Morales the edge against Pac, Pac the edge against prime Barrera in a real good fight, and see him losing to Mosley and DLH in stupendous fashion.

The thing about Manny Pacquiao is that he is the opposite of Roberto Duran. He loses on paper to the greats but wins in actual fights.

    :rofl

I think the conclusion of the Barrera fight is pretty obvious. How much did Erik really decline during the period between the first and second fights? I would still go with Pacquiao, he improved after that loss.

Delahoya and Mosley are less easy to call but neither are what you would call unbeatable even at their bests.

Mosley is a 60/40 fight in favor of Pac(Mosley is not a great welterweight, has trouble with Rivera), Morales is a 50/50 fight as Pac was still developing as a fighter during that time. Pac beats Oscar, Oscar is well suited on Pac's style, Pac dominates left handed dependent fighter like Oscar, and at time against Orthodox fighter Oscar was confused(as Oscar mentioned), what more against a fast southpaw like Pacquiao who throw punches from different angles.

It's the insane level of skepticism over the new ATG on the block. It's mind boggling. Barrera indeed. :patsch

Mosley and De La Hoya would beat Manny prime vs prime imo.

Morales would probably edge out another close decision win in a war, and I think Manny would win a close decision against Barrera.

I think Manny at his best beats Barrera and Morales. Yes, EM beat Pac when he was a bit past it himself but Pac wasn´t as good as he would become. Prime for prime I´d pick Pac in a close one.
DLH looked so out of his depth against Pac that even in his prime I don´t see him beating Pac. Yes, he was past it. Yes, he was weight-drained. But he looked so puzzled and overwhelmed by Pac´s speed and angles, even in his prime he would have problems with that. He´d make it much more difficult for Pac and would be on his feet after 12 but he´d lose I think.
Mosley is interesting. He has the speed and power to hurt Pac. And he is the bigger man. I don´t know if Pac could take those punches. But Mosley lacks the defence, workrate and pace of Pac. I don´t think prime Mosley fights like he actually did. He would be confident and go to war. If Pac proves to be able to take Mosley´s best I think he uses his faster feet, angles and workrate to outhustle Mosley to a decision.

I think he beats Mosley, Mosley punches too wide and doesn't have the defense, Delahoya I think is a close 1, DLH maybe too big but the speed and straighter punches of Pac should win out.

So the only 1 I pick over him is Morales but Morales needs a tape of JMM to do it

Pac has gotten a lot better too though. I think he beats all of them now, maybe DLH gives him the toughest fight.

I think I need to see him beat yet another corpse before I'm convinced that he takes prime versions of these guys.
