First a quick note on Rigondeaux: He should never be televised again. Now on to the main event. I have to admit that I laughed like hell every time HBO discussed the "controversies" in the dressing room. Can anyone say "paint-by-numbers mind games"? I have to admit I was a bit surprised to see Rockgloves blow back up to 165lbs. I expected the weight loss to impact him a bit and see him come in around 158-159lbs. That said, the weight didn't do him any favours. He couldn't track Pacquiao down and the fight played out exactly as I said pre-fight - Steward style. How else could this fight go? Pacquiao held every single advantage aside from height. Rockgloves' extra weight just let him absorb more shots, but it sure as hell didn't help him avoid any of them. Tijuana's Favourite Punching Bag took his beating like a man last night, but this fight shouldn't be built up to be more than it is. An overmatched fighter took a systematic beating over twelve rounds. This was one of the easiest fights I've ever had to predict.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention how laughably idiotic HBO's commentary was regarding Floyd vs. Manny. They suggested that Floyd was waiting for Pacquiao to get old or over the hill, completely ignoring the fact that Floyd is older than Pacquiao and has been fighting since he could walk.
I think Floyd may have wanted Pac to take some more damage and become worn down. It's true that Pac is younger, but as someone else mentioned, his way of fighting means that he'll probably have less longevity on the top level than Floyd, who barely takes any punishment. I remember how Leonard waited to take on Hagler and choose the right moment, and I really hope Floyd decides to do the same thing soon. I want to see this fight now, before both guys get older and further past their prime. Pac should take the tests, if only to put these rumours down for good, and then we can have this fight at last. If Floyd still won't fight Pac next, then it will be incredibly frustrating watching them take on other people and running down the clock on their best years.
This from a knucklehead that thinks Floyd's win over Baldomir is one of the best wins ever. Dumbass casual fan.
:verysad Age ain't nothing but a number. I've not heard HBO's commentary, but what they were doesn't seem to be ridiculous. The more wars Manny involves himself in, the older he gets.
It's interesting that so many people fail to realize that fighters take far more wear in tear in the gym than they ever do under the bright lights with the television cameras rolling.
Thought that was Kellerman trying to goat/tempt Floyd into fighting Pac. Someone's got to help Floyd get his "urge" back. The logic is there because Pac is an action fighter that gets hit. That punishment slows you down more than age will.
It's not like Floyd has never taken shots. His gym sessions are also legendary for how tough they are. There just isn't any logic in the notion that an older fighter who has seen more boxing in his life would gain an advantage from waiting for a younger guy to get older. It's not like Floyd is getting younger.
Which would be negated by the fact that Floyd has been boxing from the time he could walk and is years older.
