No. They could fight at any weight.

A 147 limit is only an advantage if another guy rehydrates to a significantly heavier weight over another fighter who isnt acclimated to that weight. Thats not the case here. That was, however, the case when JMM fought Floyd. This argument that Pac is trying to stretch out JMM is lame. There's no doubt that Pac can still make 140 but the point is it isnt necessary. Why should Pac risk having to cut weight when he doesn't have to? I mean didnt he already fought JMM with that very handicap the last time they fought? THEY BOTH CAN COME IN AT THEIR MOST COMFORTABLE when its at 47, not necessarily the case if its at 140. You want the best versions of each fighter, and 147 assures this.

The thing is, Pacquiao could easily bulk to 147 for them to take advantage of the maximum and Marquez's smaller weight frame.

This is why Marquez would build muscle to weigh the maximum. He doesn't want it to be harder to hurt Pac and easier to get hurt by Pac with the potential pound difference. He can't gamble they'll be close without a reasonable ceiling.

On top of all that, Pacquiao is naturally a 140 pounder. The reason Roach wants it at weltwerweight is because Pac is "happier" eating three meals a day and whatnot, but it's clearly not necessary. Pacquiao takes advantage of fighting half a weight class up to come in at his best non-cut weight, but Marquez would probably gain less from doing the same.

Why not just make it 140?

Have it at 135lbs - then after winning VS shot Marquez [floyd destroyed him], Manroid Pacroid should be FORCED to defend his new belt @154lbs VS Paul Williams. :deal:deal

I agree with this. If they fight at 147, both fighters can weigh whichever is comfortable with them. JMM can weigh 135 as long as he likes and Pac at his usual 144-145 lbs as long as it's at 147 limit.

I'm still disappointed this fight didn't happen considering they are pretty much the same natural size.

If the weight gained from re-hydrating and the weight brought in days prior to fight night from training were the same, weight classes wouldn't exist as they do.

One fighter is moving up, let the other move down to meet in the middle. Where's the harm in that?

Pac doesn't have to cut, he has to carbo load. I think they're the same size, and it's gonna be a good fight every time until JMM gets old.
