Whats the highest we could reasonably rank Pac all time in any of the weight classes he competed?

Its an interesting question to me because theres reason enough to put him anywhere in the top 20, all the way up to #1 on a p4p list… (I wouldn’t, I’m just saying, it's not unreasonable..)

But I struggle to rank him at the absolute top of any weight class he competed in. He didn’t stick around long enough at the weights he would have made the most of his talents at (probably 135-140), and while he had great runs below and above that, those weight classes are basically too rich historically to rank him among the absolute best.

On top of that, at lighter weights he wasn’t quite the “Pacman” as we know him yet, and higher up his physical disadvantages are too much when comparing him to the historical greats of the division… Yes he beat a lot pf very good fighters at 147, but no great ones (Mosley and Oscar were cooked).

His “greatest run” was probably from 140 (one fight with Hatton) and beyond, but his greatest wins are probably still against the mexican trio between 126-130.

On a head to head basis, whos the greatest fighter of the weights he competed in that you’d make him the favorite against?

I wouldn’t favor him over Salvador Sanchez, but I think he’s got a solid shot there. I don’t see him having much to offer Duran or Whitaker, unless they have a real bad night.

Leonard and Robinson…. they’re just too big and good (and I think this always would have been the case with Floyd too - although it would have been a better fight a few years earlier)

I may favor him over Chavez or Pryor…may.

    Good question.

I'd say in regards to how he ranks his best weightclasses were Super Bantamweight, Super Featherweight, Welterweight.

    Super Bantamweight

    11-0-1 at the weight.

    Super Featherweight

    8-1 at the weight

Stand out wins vs Morales x2, Barrera, Marquez, Larios.

    Welterweight

    19-5-1 at the weight.

Stand out wins vs ODLH, Mosley, Cotto, Thurman, Bradley x2, Marquez, Margarito, Clottey.

I'd say overall Welterweight is probably the weightclass he rates the highest at for the sheer amount of filler and world title fights he had.

I'd say his peak weight was maybe between 135-140 though.

And his best single win was maybe Barrera at Featherweight

I would say what you bring up about Manny is going to be an issue related to a lot of fighters going forward. Especially in the weight classes below middleweight where there is an incredible amount of movement. Due to absurd weight cutting with the day before weigh ins and the fact that there’s so many weight classes so close to each other, guys are willing to move up in weight and even give up titles now because it’s easier to make the next weight up. Men just aren’t staying at the same weight class for a very long time at all.
