We've been hearing about this for a while, and I honestly don't have any idea of what people mean by this. In which way is Pacquiao on the decline?

Now, I did see the uninteresting fights, but I think you really have to look at how his opponent's were fighting. Pacquiao looks amazing against once style; an opponent who comes forward and looks for timing and hooks.

I'll look at the opponents since he became a "superstar", which really started from the DLH fight.

    -------------

Oscar De La Hoya - Used an all round game. Would have wanted to push the pace, but was unable to keep coming forward after the pressure of Pac. Pacquiao looked great.

Ricky Hatton - A guy known for gritting his teeth, coming forward and trading hooks. Pacquiao looked great.

Miguel Cotto - See Hatton. Pacquiao looked great.

Joshua Clottey - Hid behind his guard and wouldn't really open up for a punch. Pacquiao looked okay.

Antonio Margarito - Walked Pacquiao down at all times and never took a step back. Pacquiao looked great.

Shane Mosely - Ran away the entire fight and refused to engage. Pacquiao looked okay.

Juan Manuel Marquez (3) - Stayed on the back foot and looked for counters. Didn't really come forward and was able to notch ahead on points. Pacquiao looked okay at best.

Timothy Bradley (1) - Stayed on the back foot the entire time. Pacquiao was able to land on him but the shots weren't huge or clean. Pacquiao looked okay.

Juan Manuel Marquez (4) - Some slight adjustments on the feet meant that Pacquaio was able to negate JMM's previous tactics. JMM was dragged into a fight as a result, and both men went toe to toe . [IMO for this one] Pacquiao looked great.

Brandon Rios - One dimensional boxer who comes forwards and looks for hooks. Worse version of Hatton/Cotton. I have no idea why Pac gets any abuse for the performance in this, again I felt Pacquiao looked great.

Timothy Bradley (2) - Bradley got quickly frustrated from the speed of Pacquiao catching him off guard. He started coming forward and throwing huge hooks. Pacquiao looked great.

    -----------------

Whenever Pacquiao looked bad, it was because his opponent was doing something more than coming forward and looking for a big shot (something us Pacquiao fans have to take into account with the fabled Mayweather clash).

Now that Pacquiao's opponents are coming forward looking for big hooks again, Pac is looking awesome. He looked slightly bad because he had Mosley, JMM and Bradley in a row (and then the JMM knockout loss).

To me, Pacquiao looks as good now as he ever has before. To some people that's a bad thing of course, but all I'm talking about is the "decline", which imo is non existent.

Pac looked like crap against Rios, imo. If you have been watching him closely over the years you would know. Something I've noticed is his accuracy has gone down offensively. Also, his stamina, power and speed. Its only natural and more noticeable for any boxer that relies so much on a physical driven style.

Actually hes almost the same but it looks like his power has declinded alot ( really has me thinking on why he ducked the Mayweather in 2010) other then that hes still the same fighter.

Footwrok still good, speed not as good but still fast and still wide open for counters. thats how pacquio has always been

There has been a marked decline from the Margarito fight onwards. Watch Pac vs Cotto and Pac vs Margarito for the difference.

The Pac that fought Cotto was a Tasmanian devil.

I watched Pacquiao vs Cotto recently.....and I would agree in regards to that being his physical prime. But his decline is really being over-exaggerated. When Pacquiao is not able to compete against elite level competition....that is when we can start discussing his decline in my opinion.

I think most experts would agree with your assessments of those fights.

I think Pacquiao looked very good against Rios/BradleyII. Though I wouldn't say he looked as good as he did against DLH/Hatton/Cotto.

The Pacquiao of 2009 would have downed Bradley a couple times before TKOing him in the ninth.

Pac has Void running like a pig from a gun. He has Void afraid of him, afraid enough to refuse the biggest PPV fight in boxing history and his biggest payday..........................

You raise a couple of good points, but you need to look at the little details. Look at how long of a round they fight for... Pac and Floyd used to be excellent 3 minutes of every round. Now they fight in spurts and look almost as good, just not as long.

Pac's movement is still good, but look closely... his hand speed is still there but his explosiveness in his lateral movement is slowing. He looks a bit heavier on his feet.

He really has fantastic punching technique. His footwork is overrated because his fans are ******s but his positioning is fantastic in how he puts good pop on everything he throws.

I remember once when me and Pacquiao were down by the local river and we were skimming stones, he had a brand new pair of nike trainers on, the kind with the flashing heels and they looked really cool. We wanted to cross the river because I knew a short cut to KFC and Pacquiao kept saying he was craving a zinger burger. There was a pipe over the river and I walked across it no worries. Pacquiao went to cross but as he was nearly all the way over his foot slipped a bit and he had to step in the water to get his balance, ruining his cool trainer. After the the light wouldn't even work. I remember how sad he looked and he said that he wasn't the same anymore. A few summers ago he'd have been the first one across the pipe no problem. We don't go to the river anymore, those days are over now.

Tim made manny miss ALOT of punches in both fights to be honest.. iv no idea how you can say he looked great in the 2nd fight... i thought he looked poor in the first 6, tim gassed and gave manny the fight by doing silly things in the corner etc... and obviously being tired. Manny did what he had to do and won basically on being more active in more rounds.. thowing shots at a guy who was making him miss butn not making him pay = the only reason he won

Manny should retire right now IMO, it's only going to get worse from here. He won against a top p4p fighter, retire on top manny.
