I felt i saw a decline in Pac's stamina in the JMM rematch, but imo putting on 15lbs of weight from the weigh in to the fight will often do that. Also the fight was one of those where he couldn't take any mental breaks, not even for 1 second. Always have to be concentrated. Very exhausting imo. As far as JMM goes i think that his performance in the second Pac fight was probably the best in his career. 12 week training camp. You know the motivation was there, the commitment was there, the amazing training team was there, the probably brought in the best sparring partners, etc. Everything was there. thirdly when it comes to pac, he has become a much more reactive fighter than he used to be, and this evolution is evident from even before the Diaz fight. Thats why i posted a while back that Pac is one of the best technical boxers today. I saw some things against JMM that maybe other people didn't see. JMM would lead with the right and duck, PAc would side step it and bring him up with the uppercut. Shoulder blocking and countering. Alot of very nice stuff. Just that compared to JMM its practically impossible to be technically superior. Pac showed his improvements against Larios also. Larios wasn't just the undersized opponent who wasn't strong enough to fight PAc. He was thoroughly outboxed. When the fight was over Larios wasn't making excuses about size either, he was pretty much saying this guy is just too good.
Let me just add or clarify about the quotes in this thread that Pac was breathing harder than what has been seen of him against David Diaz...... ......this is likely the reason why Pac incorporated more boxing and movement against him. Diaz is physically stronger than Pac, and so Pac's breathing would naturally look more labored punching at a physically stronger man than himself. Against fighters that are naturally stronger than him, you're going to find that Pac is going to have to exert more energy and apply more power to his shots if he wants them to have the same effect that they had at the lower weight classes. .....that means that Pac may suffer a drop in his stamina, which is natural as one gains more weight. Pac is likely to get away with it, as there is'nt an established great lightweight in existence today. What I would worry if I were a Pac fan, is to think that if Pac was breathing hard just using Diaz as a punching bag......What of better fighters like Campbell who easily disposed of a strong willed Juan Diaz? .......and what is going to come about if he faces a true P4P pressure assasin like Ricky Hatton, who I believe is much stronger than Pac. Pac's breathing was'nt at the Par he's accustomed against a fighter that was barely touching him.....my goodness, when Hatton starts to apply that pressure, works the body, and just starts to maul and use clincing tactics as a tactic to control Pac's speed...... ......its something to seriously think about if you're a Pac fan and are of the thinking that Pac has a realistic shot at Hatton.
at the same time that was his first fight at 135 and its hard to get adjusted to a new weight. You are hitting people who are bigger and you are not used to it yet. Probably in his next fight his stamina will be slightly better than against Diaz though never as good as it was when he was at lower weights imo Pac showed this when he moved up to 130 against Morales. In subsequent fights his stamina got better as his body got more adjusted to the weight.
Lets be honest here, both Pac and JMM fought nothing but fighters who moved up or had moved up from the same lower weights that they'd been. None have fought a legit, tough, and skilled fighter at his natural weight, at any weight past 126 lbs. As far as I'm concerned.....Morales, MAB, Pac, and JMM have proven nothing past fighting at 126 lbs..... These guys were really lucky that the Mayweather's, Freitas', and Corrales' had outgrown the division by the time that the mini-fab four had gotten to 130 lbs. Whats come afterward, aside from themselves, is a relatively weak 130 and 135 lbs divisions. Fighting the David Diaz' and shot Casamayor's of the world will prove very little. A step up from that will be Campbell and Juan Diaz, though I would'nt call it a major step up, but still significantly better than D.Diaz and Casamayor. There just are'nt any real bonafide tough, skilled natural lightweights out there.
Things have to be told the way they are....you are saying the truth...nothing wrong with that. Many people might disagree with you, but that would only mean that they over rate their favourite boxer(s). With this post you are showing your true colors, and that is that you are a real boxing fan and not a fanatic. Good for you.
The higher he goes up in weight or the worse his reflexes get due to aging the less power he is going to have so I think he is going to have to start fighting like the fight is being scored on an Amateur Boxing system and just focus on out landing and out punching his opponent. Eventually his power won't be as effective and well if he works on just timing/landing/variety it will make him into a better 'boxer' as far as focusing on winning rounds is concerned. And right now if he does this with his power still being quite effective then we still might have some pretty damn good PacMan performances in the future.
