Pacquiao's fame in the Mexican community really intrigues me.

I spoke to a few Mexican fellows I know today and found out they were boxing fans. Turns out all of them support Manny Pacquiao and not Oscar for their fight in December. I found this pretty surprising.

They also seemed surprisingly happy that Pacquiao had beaten some of the stars from Mexico (i didn't try to argue that I thought he is 0-1-1 with Marquez). They look at it almost like Pacquiao earned his stripes in the Mexican Community.

I just find this surprising, and can't really think of another fighter who is from one nationality but becomes so warmly welcomed by another. Maybe Italians with Marvin Hagler?

It's the way he fights and also the way he acts outside the ring, you just have to love the guy.

In honor of the mexican community, he will blame his next loss on bad tacos and failure to take a siesta that day.

Filipinos love Morales most among all Mexican fighters for being a true:

    1. gentleman
    2. true Mexican warrior

    not necessarily in that order.

Pacquiao showed some class and true humility by declining the monicker, "Mexicutioner." He has great respect for the Mexican boxers and the Mexican people as well.

That's odd. I myself am puzzled on who I want to this coming fight. I don't know any Mexican that like Pac more than Marquez though.

A lot of Latinos/Mexicanos aren't huge Oscar fans, for one reason or another. Some don't like his fighting style, some are just jealous and a number of them think he's a pretentious jerk.

Manny is a hard-nosed guy that is full-out in the ring, and seems like a normal person outside the squared circle even though he's treated like a God in his country. Manny appears to be grounded despite his success, whereas Oscar often seems to be trying to figure out what his best camera angle is or giving off another throwaway Oscar smile. Many Mexicans can relate better to Manny than they can Oscar.

Mexicans, in general, tend to be humble and modest people, and they often appreciate those qualities in others. Being half-Mexican myself, I have some idea what I'm talking about here. Oscar doesn't necessarily radiate genuineness, humility or restraint. And there is always the envy factor, as I mentioned above.

I don't have a big problem with Oscar, but he's not my favorite fighter, either. I have much more affinity for Margarito than I do Oscar. Antonio is more of the classic "Mexican" fighter than is Oscar. One example of this is the track meet job ODLH did in the final 4 round or so with Trinidad. Many Mexican fans would rather their guy go out on his shield in a loss than win by pot-shotting and running.

The jealousy factor is one the cheapest cop outs I see being used around here. It makes no sense at all! All the top boxers are millionaires with a celebrity life style. Why the hell aren't people jealous of every other top boxer?
