Pacquiao's fame in the Mexican community really intrigues me.

Mexico and the Philippines have similar cultural background and Manny Pacquiao is a personification of a true gentleman hence, his being acceptable to the Mexican fans.
By contrast, ODLH flaunts his wealth which is an anathema to the humble Mexican people...

Filipinos love watching sluggers with big fighting hearts, just like Mexican boxing fans.

Filipinos respect slick, technical boxers and counterpunchers, but they prefer watching an old school brawl instead of a virtual chess match.

Maybe Mexicans are like that too.

As early as 2002, when Pacquiao was barely known even by the American boxing fans, I've heard Mexican boxing fans call Manny with a Spanish nickname, "Gallo" which in English translates to fighting rooster.

If you've ever watched a live cockfight, you'd see the similarities between Pac's old fighting style to 2 roosters fighting, with razor sharp blades attached to its leg, battling to the death.
