The first gif looks fine in terms of footwork.

That low cross hair lunging jab he starts off with in the second gif helped him get his ass knocked out against Marquez.

It is every bit technical. Moving forward and pivoting to side like that while retaining your balance is high level footwork. This is something they train on in the gym. If you think it's just flashy athletics , find me somebody who's athletic and can move there feet like that, punch, and stay coordinated and balanced.

What's wrong with Cotto's footwork? :huh

    Not technical?

Pacquiao's footwork has become far underrated on this forum due to the continual comparisons with Mayweather. Is Pacquiao's footwork as good as Mayweather's? I've always said no. But is it as bad as people say? Nope.

Pacquiao's footwork is very, very good, his foot speed was better, but like I said, his footwork is still some of the best in the sport. Of course he can make mistakes and be clumsy with it, but that's the fine line he has had to tread due to his offensive style. The angles he has hit throughout his career, and the speed at which he does it whilst still throwing punches is great to watch...and is very technical.

Moving laterally is not a southpaw advantage. The stance is considered an advantage, but moving laterally is not.

Legendary trainer Emmanuel Steward says Pac has amazing footwork, you say he doesn't. I wonder who has a better technical eye for these things...

Bradley was on twisted ankles BECAUSE of Pacquiao's footwork. Pac was moving side to side so much Bradley couldn't keep up trying to spin round to follow him, twisting his ankle in the process.

The difference in power is apparent in that GIF. JMM has hit Pac plenty of times before with that shot. Only the 4th dropped him like a log.

Heredia did wonders for that power of JMM's.

look plenty of atg fighters use unconventional methods ffs
look at calzaghe and martinez, i hardly think it's time a bunch of bums who've never boxed in their live and judged how expierience in boxing by how many posts they have on here, can critisize an ATG's technique like many Pacquiao

This is not uncommon , Jack Dempsey also use to fight with his lead foot facing forward , his description of this method of fighting was called his trigger punch.

According to fighter who use this method, it allows them to be more explosive when punching off the lead foot, but requires a lot of bobbing and weaving for defense.

Jack Dempsey went in to great detail about this fighting style in his book "Championship fighting" Bruce Lee also explored his method in his book the Tao of Jeet Kune Do. Both books are good reads by the way.
