I don't see his jab as his strenth. I think is basicaly a range finding jab which is used while coming forward to measure his man for the bread and butter straight left.

Then, after the straight left, he sometimes throws a right hand which mimicks a jab but has more of a hooking motion to it. Thats a great punch, because of the angle it is delivered and the leverage he uses from bringing back his straigh left.

for sure its the best range finding jab today but on top of that he throws it with intent and it is able to hurt opponents as well as throw them off balance. Its also one of the fastest (if not the fastest)

Hearns' flicker jab was also a range finding jab and one of the best jabs in boxing.

Roy Jones is known for NOT throwing a jab.

I haven't seen him hurt an opponent with a jab, of course he may have and I just don't remember it.

I like the forward motion and footwork he uses with the punch, it places the movement of his body behind the trajectory.

The flip side to that style of punching is that its a gamble. If a fighter can slip the punch, it leaves Pac off balance and vulnerable with all of that body weight in motion and nowhere to transfer the force of the energy.

IMO the weakess of Pacquiao's jab is that he has trouble throwing it off the backfoot.

often when he is moving forward if a fighter slips the jab he will get hit with a second or third jab. Its really after throwing the straight left that pac is open for the counter not so much the jab.

Yes, he has difficulty doing almost everything off the back foot, but to his credit rarely needs to.

The right hook that he has worked on should help him with this. Its a great moving backward punch for southpaws if kept relatively tight and used with proper footwork.

This is why I can't see him beating Hatton at all.

Your right. This is why I also see him losing to Diaz.

Pacquiao is much faster than Juan Diaz he would be in and out on him all night he won't need to throw punches off the back foot cause he will always be out of range and then popping in to throw a combination and then right back out. Hatton is quite explosive himself its a different story

I'm still undecided on a winner for a Pac-Juan Diaz bout. Pac is certainly faster, but he's never faced someone who constantly goes forward(like he does) and never backs down. In this fight I see Diaz as the aggresor and Pac the one moving around and keeping his distance, and I dont know how long Pac's stamina will last using that style. In all of his fights, he's usually the aggressor and is the one who takes the initiative in attacking. But in this fight he's gonna do the same thing his past opponents does against him. And considering he's facing a top-notch pressure fighter and volume puncher, he's surely gonna expend much more energy keeping his distance and moving around than he usually does attacking at will and being the aggressor. Thus, he's gonna wear down late in the rounds, resulting in a Diaz TKO/KO or a UD.

This is why Pac's power is so important IMO. It depends on whether or not he brings his power with him at Lightweight(at the very least 90% of the power hes carrying around currently). If he does, then I believe Pac has a great chance of stopping Juan in the late rounds. We'll see. Although if you ask my "humble" opinion, I do think Pac will still be able to carry his power to Lightweight. But we can never be too sure.

Larios is exactly like that (constantly goes forward and never backs down). And arguably (by his own accord after the fight) came in the best shape of his life against Pac.

Juan Diaz is like a slightly bigger slightly better (maybe) version of Larios.

Their styles are completely different. Larios is also taller and taller fighters generally trouble Pac.

If Pac carries his power, its KO. MAB & Morales arent known for having soft chins...but look at what happens when Pac hits them cleanly. To put Pac's power into perspective, Pac obliterated Morales in 3 with his SFW power, David Diaz arguably lost to Morales at LW. Pac will hit Juan who isnt too dificult to hit, Juan will walk into it and loose confidence soon as he feels it.

Pacmans jab is quick enough, accurate enough and he can move forwards throwing it.

However it is just a brilliant ABC jab with nothing too clever about it.
