This is a very debatable subject as it is a close call. Nonetheless, I'd have to say Tszyu, pretty much for the reasons mentioned up until now. And despite the overwhelming infestation of Pacquiao fans who know **** about boxing outside of Manny (A.K.A. *******s, very fitting term), I think the voters got this one right. And I'm not saying all Pacquiao fans aren't well knowledged about the sport outside of him, just the majority.
I'd say prime Tszyu's straight right hand is a little bit harder and more devastating but Pacquiao's straight left is overall the better punch by a margin Pac's straight left is IMO currently the best punch in boxing and probably the best straight left hand of all time. Also when Pac was at 122, his straight left was every bit as hard and devastating as a prime Tszyu's right hand, if not more. Here's a prime example from 2001: This content is protected
If he throws that punch, you can't call it a left hook, can you? So "roundhouse" is the official term for that?
Tszyu would've obliterated PacGwire with that right. Anyways, anyone know Tszyu's workout regimen? I read somewhere that he trained like a mad man and had some unorthodox training methods.
The way I see it a roundhouse is a punch thrown around the side with the back hand. I could be wrong. I've seen roundhouse punches that look more like hooks especially with fighters who square up their stance. maybe best to ask this in the training section. I wouldn't know
His blowout of Sharmba Mitchell in the rematch was a thing of beauty, too. I remember one of the three knockdowns was quintessential Tszyu. It didn't look like there was a kayo imminent at all, but he managed to catch Mitchell with a single, perfectly timed right hand. He didn't telegraph, didn't lean all the way over on his left foot, and couldn't have been more than an inch of follow-through... Mitchell's butt hit the canvas like he'd been shot with a tranquilizer dart. It was awesome! :happy
Pacquiao's work rate would eventually retire Tszyu in the late rounds, but Manny doesn't have the power to match Tszyu's straight right. The Manny of two years ago might lose to a prime Tszyu. But Pacquiao's offensive ferocity would overwhelm Tszyu.
Tszyu's right. Pac's left is probably faster and more versatile, but for pure power, hardness, and devastation, there's no doubt in my mind that Tszyu's straight right has to take it.
